Triple negative breast cancer diagnosis

Hello, today I have been diagnosed with TNBC and am in a complete spin about it! As soon as he said it I went into a massive panic as I know it's aggressive and less easy to treat and I'm now scared out of my mind. I'm to have an MRI and CT scan within 2 weeks and then probably straight to chemo.

im 43 and wasn't offered gene testing and I wonder if I should have been as I have a sister and 6 year old daughter to consider

I guess I'm just hoping there are ladies out there who have had a similar diagnosis to me and are doing well?

  • Hi sorry to read your diagnosis.

I was diagnosed last March with it had surgery in April then chemo and radiotherapy therapy finishing Dec 21st.

I'm now free of cancer and on yearly screening I'm 56.

I did have the genetic screening due to family history and my age.

It's not an easy journey to go through so just take it a day at a time. There are triple negative groups on fb which are really good and also breastcancernow.org is worth joining.

Anything I can help with please just ask.

    Best wishes

    Louise xx

  • Thanks for replying Louise, it's so comforting to hear from someone who had had it and has come through the other side.

did you have the gene? I think I'm going to ask to be put forward for testing because my mums auntie did have a double mastectomy in her 30's and we don't know lots of our family members. I just thought if I have the gene then it will impact the treatment I chose and so I should be given it.

im not sure how I'm going to be a normal mummy to my kids today but I'm going to have to muster the strength from somewhere :-( xx

  • Hi,

I was 46 when diagnosed with TNBC,  I was offered genetic testing, I would ask your BCN to refer you, mine thankfully came back negative but it does take 6/8 weeks to get the results back.  I had a lumpectomy in November then followed by 20 weeks of chemotherapy,  I will then need radiotherapy,  it's a lot to take in a diagnosis of triple negative is always frightening, once you have a plan of treatment it will get easier.

  • Thanks for replying. I emailed my BCN and she said she will refer me, hopefully it's negative like your but knowledge is power I guess.
Im praying that I get my scans booked in soon, they show it hasn't spread and can get on with treatment asap as I keep reading about it being 'aggressive' and that worry's me.

im pleased your treatment is going well, was the chemo doable? I know it's probably awful to go through

wishing you all the best xx

  • Thankfully no I don't have the faulty gene x
