Surgery for breast surgery

Ok, scared now. I have breast cancer. Surgery booked for Mondy (28th). Radiotherapy and menopause inducing drugs to come. Anyone been in the same situation got any advice? Please!

Update - now waiting for surgery number 3! They found more cancer (15mm grade 2) and an affected lymph node (now 2 out of 7) during surgery 2. My treatment plan after surgery (if successful) has yet to be discussed. If surgery 3 doesn't come back clear, a mastectomy may be the only option. Had enough of this now. The waiting is getting me down. The not knowing whether chemo is needed or not is taking over my head. Struggling to get motivated.

Surgeon and cancer nurse have mentioned the optima trial - just adding to my things to think about. Anyone have any thoughts?

  • I been there done that as they say. Felt out of control about decisions being made for me. Had a lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node removed then found it had spread to lymph nodes so back in for full axillary clearance. Thank god I don't need chemotherapy but do need radiotherapy and the tablets for 10 years instead of 5. Don't know when that will start it's all a waiting game. Try to keep positive love. When people ask me how I am I say fine paint on a smile and keep going. Just stay strong keep you chin up xx

  • I totally understand the 'painting on a smile'. In front of anyone I see it's all ''yeah, I'm fine, it is what it is. It'll be fine'. Inside I'm screaming - leave me alone, I'm not ok. I'm scared but don't want to upset my husband and daughter.

Whenever I see anyone I know...'How are you Nick?'

'I'm good, you?' Is always my response. Inside screaming again!

  • Morning Nicky ,

Wow we are so similar. I am a HLTA but am responsible for planning and teaching year 3 and 4 maths (I job share with a teacher, I only work 3 days a week).

Went to see my boss yesterday and he's very supportive too. I've been there 22 years without any time off before this.

I'm having lots of down days and feel constantly drained. Had very little sleep last night so got up tired. It's a vicious circle.

I really hope my oncologist appointment comes today.

I've practically ran to the door every door this week hoping it'll be here. My surgeon said it would be about 2 weeks before I had it, it's been a week now and no indication of when it'll be.

Keeping busy today with my 18 month old granddaughter and husband. Off to Lidl for food for a BBQ tomorrow with my 2 grown up daughters (30 and 27 ) and my grandsons 7 and 5. Need to enjoy this weather.
Wish I could enjoy this year but so far so many bad things have happened.

    Take care

    Jayne xx

  • Oh my word! Along with HLTA I am also computing lead. Also been there for 22 years. And my daughter is 27! Funny old world. No grandchildren yet though.

Hope your appointment comes soon. My husband has an op on his hand on Tuesday which is taking my mind off it all a little. It's just something different to worry about.

Great weather for a BBQ - enjoy!

    Love

    Nicky

  • Hopes your does too.

I'm wondering if there is a way for direct contact?
So a husband to worry about too! What a rubbish time for you.

Try and have a good day .

  • I have sent you a friend request. X

  • Hi

I hope you don't mind me asking why you were given chemo tx ? You had clear margins and no lymph nodes? What type of cancer was it?

I have to go for 2nd op to get clear margins on my 18mm her2 pr/er positive Tumour and I'm anxious I may need chemo as there is an unclear margin all be it very small

i hope you are keeping well now

    lucy x

  • I believe it's because I have invasive lobular breast cancer. My oncologist said it was that although there were clear margins there could be the odd cancerous cell floating around so it was a belts and braces approach to ensure it doesn't return.

  • That would make sense

how did you discover it as I think it's harder to detect isn't it?
so pleased u did tho and your ok x

  • I found the lump myself.

I have now done 4 of the 6 chemos and coping ok. Next up is radiotherapy! I have been lucky as I am able to take a week off after each round of chemo and then back to working from home for 2 weeks.

But I will definitely be relieved when the invasive type treatment is over and my hair starts returning!!

  • I would like to know how you are feeling. The end of treatment can be difficult, I found that any way.

  • Hi lovely,

Sorry for the very late reply not been on here for quite some time. I'm currently sat having my final chemo, hooray, and have my axillary clearance booked for 14th July.

    How are things you you?

    Kaye xx
