Surgery for breast surgery

Ok, scared now. I have breast cancer. Surgery booked for Mondy (28th). Radiotherapy and menopause inducing drugs to come. Anyone been in the same situation got any advice? Please!

Update - now waiting for surgery number 3! They found more cancer (15mm grade 2) and an affected lymph node (now 2 out of 7) during surgery 2. My treatment plan after surgery (if successful) has yet to be discussed. If surgery 3 doesn't come back clear, a mastectomy may be the only option. Had enough of this now. The waiting is getting me down. The not knowing whether chemo is needed or not is taking over my head. Struggling to get motivated.

Surgeon and cancer nurse have mentioned the optima trial - just adding to my things to think about. Anyone have any thoughts?

  • Lot of similar stories to mine, here. (Have also posted to Macmillan forum). Just in left breast with two cancers, 9mm grade 2 invasive and then a smaller tumour, but both cancerous both with DCIS present and less than 1mm from margins. Right breast and lymph nodes clear thankfully. Offered MRI guided re-excision or mastectomy, either flat or with reconstruction, which I have gone for. However after meeting with microvasular plastic surgeon, I have been told that I am not suitable currently for flap reconstruction, so have asked for implant reconstruction instead -It feels terriblylike I have had a long wait for appt at clinic with lovely surgeon to discuss this on this coming Wed and I am really really hoping for a date for the mastectomy, one way or another. Then there will another fortnight waiting for the histology / pathology results to see if I need to see oncologist, for further treatment decisions, other than the hormone therapy which will definitely happen. I'm "fine!"

  • Haha I'm 'fine' too!

Beginning to wish I'd just gone for mastectomy in the first place. Will probably feel different if it turns out I don't require any further surgery though...

Good luck for Wednesday. Fingers crossed you get a date sorted.
