Triple negative breast cancer newly diagnosed

I was diagnosed before Christmas then just had my first chemo two weeks ago. All went well but I'm terrified that it spreading. I'm not sure why I didn't have surgery first. I've read that if it's a large tumour, mine is at 3cm that they want to shrink it first but mine is aggressive. I question wouldn't it be better to remove the breast whilst it's contained and then blast with chemo as I'm worried it will metasize. I still feel the pain. I'm also scared it's in my lymph nodes. I'm not sure if I had a biopsy there... The consultant said he didn't think it was in my lymph nodes but will check when I have surgery. Feeling tearful thinking of my family and the thought that I might leave them. Any tnbc survivors and fellow chemo champions I'd love to hear from you. Bx

  • Hi Bk3. I'm triple negative too, no chemo yet. Starts this week.

As I understand it.... the tumour is left in so they can tell if the chemo drugs are reducing it.  So they know if cancer, too small to be seen, is also being acted upon.  They'll change drugs if not working.

    All the best Bk3. x

  • My hospital didn't test for all three but it is ERnegative they only found one little 9mm bit (but it was cancer to edges so not totally excised)

not havjng treatment yet as the MRI to guide reexcision has found a big bit of more than 9cm of dodgy looking tissue and a third bit also at the back of breast so now more delays for me.

I don't know why they use chemo first but I have had friends who did very well in that and who haven't had recurrance since--so maybe it is to kill off as much as they can to catch any little unseen cells running about before surgery and absolutely minimise your chances of problems in the future?

maybe also to give you the best chance of breast conserving surgery too?

you cancer nurse will be able to explain that or the nurses here are really helpful

    Dear 2me,

Thankyou for your reply and I hope your first chemo session went well? I'm on my second now, not to bad side effects and I have spoken to my breast nurse who has explained to me about chemo being the best option to blast this awful thing and give the best treatment.

Its hard the worry of it spreading... Never thought I'd say I want my breasts removed.

Let me know how your getting on, sending much love & couragex

    How you doin Bk3?

Good to hear your doing well on the side fx.  Somebody told me today being positive is about knowing the drugs are doing you good and the mind will take care of it.  I didn't really know what being positive was as I had always been au fait with "hear for a good time, not for a long time."  For all the fun I've had, I probably deserved worse ;)  As bad a 3x- is, at least it's genetic!!

Was due to start last Thusday, but I couldn't give consent....don't ask me, I don't know!   Put myself back in there to start next Wednesday.  So hard when I feel grand.  Anyway, I am making the most of this week, and I'm fkd if any of this good stuff I'm letting happen will stop next week.

All the best Bk3 and keep me posted...looks like we're on this together xx
