Back to work.

After being diagnosed with bowel cancer T3N1. In December 19 haveing chemo then having to shield. I was off work for a bit longer than I expected. I have worked in the same place for over 20 years. And had my own locker with all my mechanical tools. During my time off some of my work colleagues have smashed the lock of and helped themselves. For me I guess it's just reaffirmed I'm just a number. It's pretty hard to let go as I've been involved in most if not all af the mechanical job's. Just trying to let go and let others take over is hard. But having cancer has tough me that life is short and there is no point in getting upset about the passed just try and change how you think about the future.

  • Hi sorry about your cancer but this forum is ideal for talking with people who understand, been there done that got the tea shirt.

I was a bit like you always busy different jobs at work but I never locked up tools workmates were always borrowing things including boss, things were always replaced if damaged so I didn't loose out.

When I got ill I still worked when I could keeping myself busy really helped occupying my mind after treatment finished boss insisted I work less hours till I got sorted strength wise it really helped, but my darling wife was diagnosed with Altzimers and Parkinson's plus other problems so I had to retire to look after her full time,

Left everything at work as not really time to do much what with housework and clothes and bedding washing.cooking , keeping garden tidy.

As you say things really change with illness so All the plan's for the future go out the window so we set a new normal and work with that as best we can.

My boss said he'll keep his eyes on my tools and anytime I kneed anything just come and get it, but don't think I Will unless really stuck.

Hope things go smoothly for you with whatever you plan for you future.

    Good luck.

    Billy
