Testosterone replacement therapy Radical Prostate Surgery

hello

has any person who has had radical prostate surgery  PSA less than 0.1 been on Testosterone replacement therapy for treatment for depression?

  • Hi GeorgeJohno,

My reply here will boost your post so more people will see it, and this will give it a bit more chance of getting a reply in case there's anyone here who has similar experience to share.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Wow George, this is a really interesting question.

My immediate reaction was "Hell NO" but google being my friend and all that, I thought I'd go off and check!
Btw, my husband had robotic surgery for locally advanced PC. He lost a percentage of nerves but not all. His PSA is slightly on the rise atm so he couldn't consider testosterone replacement therapy but if it was as low as yours, I'd be advising him to explore this a lot more.

I don't know if you are on the FB PCUK forum, but if not, its worth asking on there. Its a busy and friendly group.

  • hello Demi2

thankyou for your input yes  was on testosterone on for depression I had been on it a 5 years and my PSA went from 3.6 to 5.9 and that is when I found out don't put the blame on my choice with testorerone.I have read in USA it is done but can't find information here.

has he had any more PSA tests,

should not ride a bike up to two weeks before PSA test get a false reading

I would see if husband can get another scan of the prostate area?

  • Hi again George,

Where you on hormones as well as the operation?

My husband had his op two years ago but they found tumours in two primary lymph nodes. He refused radiotherapy because he felt he was too young and his consultant told him, if it does come back, when his PSA gets to a certain level (which it hasn't done yet) he can have a CT scan to find out exactly where it is and just have that bit zapped with RT. Unfortunately you don't get this option on the NHS :(

  • hello Demi

I eas gleason 3+5 and T2B and still in situ

yes I had my Prostate and sperm gland removed and few nerves, I lookecd at at  Protom Beam therapy it is only done wales cost £27000/£42000 for treatment. with RT can give issues with colrectal cancer.

don't delay keep on the case don't get fobbed of tired to sai I was only suitable for Hormone therapy surgeon showed me the letter the oncologist should not be practising.

  • Oh his oncologist was awful. He wanted him to have that radical surgery with no nerves sparing and then bombard his entire pelvic area with RT:devil: We always believed it would be better to go down the NHS route with something as serious as cancer but it turned out that private treatment had a whole load more options.
He's still under a Professor who seems to be head of his game when it comes to PC. He won't ignore anything but he won't be gaslighted by someone who suggests there's only one way.
