After effects of Anal cancer

Hi. I am extremely lucky to still be cancer free from squamous anal cell carcinoma after 10 years . It wasn't an easy time, as it's a gruelling treatment and I'm a single woman who lived alone . Wasn't helped by skin breakdown caused by RT which meant weeks in hospital and permanent scarring ( not common). Any sex life is so painful and distressing that I've ruled out meeting anyone, which is devastating for an attractive sexual being!! Yes, I used dilators for 2 years after, coated myself with lubes and use Estriol cream but vaginal skin is so thin, nothing really helps. My point in this post is actually to discuss my buttocks!! My peachy bum looks like someone has gauged out each cheek cos muscle damaged by RT . This gives me a complex on holiday and wonder why it's fair that breast cancer patients can get constructive surgery but doubt I could!! Not much said about Anal cancer and when I was diagnosed in 2008 I could find no information except on American sites, so at least it's improved but still not much recognition compared to other cancers .

  • Thanks Billygoat for the suggestion.  I’m sorry about the prostate cancer.  I’ve read that one out of four men will get it during their lifetimes.  It must be miserable.  One of our old friends has it as well.  Are you suggesting that hormone therapy might help me gain weight?  I was seeing a nutritionist for a while but she wasn’t much help and definitely not worth $200/hr.  Medicare won’t cover it and nutritionists charge $200/hour so I’ve been trying to figure it out on my own.  I’m having a colonoscopy in 2 weeks so will have some answers then (a couple of areas lite up in my last scan.

My partner and I have been together for 48 years.  Like you and your wife, we had a lot of fun before we started a family and a different kind of fun with the kiddos.

  • Hi Sashacat,

I think a dating agency for seniors is a great idea.  Or those one night meets with a large group and you talk to each person for so many minutes and then move to the next.  I understand that it’s not an easy conversation to have.  My cousin is in her 80’s and her hubby passed away a few years ago.  She does internet dating and always has a man.  It’s quite comical but also sweet.  I personally wouldn’t be brave enough to do it (or have the desire).....ha!  It sounds like you have a very nice life.

Yes, it feels great to have the worse behind me.

  • Have you had colonoscopy before, some say it hurts some say not, not being nasty but hope they don't find anything you've been through enough, one thing not many know I've never had an operation in my life with my prostate cancer had spread to many places it made op dangerous,, I've still got all the pieces but to damaged by C to work Wright,,, in some ways I was lucky alot of men have pain and incontinence for years after op,, anyway good luck and best wishes hope you get sorted soon without an op,

  • Hey Billygoat, yes I have had a colonoscopy.  They knock me out for them.  The worse part is the prep.  Thank you for the good wishes.  You have a great attitude.

Best of luck to you and yours,  Texas girl
