Pharma cogenetic testing

Hello

I have a a mastectomy in December 2015, had chemo and radio, and am letrozole. So far so good for me. I have always wondered if I should have a Pharma cogenetic test. I’m not sure if these tests are undertaken when first diagnosed, so i’m not really sure if the cancer does return could treatment be more targeted, rather than  a one size fits all method.

Your thoughts please.

Linda

  • Hi Linda

I personally would leave that sort of clinical decision making to my doctors.

It seems likely that in the future we will have more treatments tailored towards individual genomes, but it's early days so far. When it's ready to roll out then NICE will issue appropriate guidance. Until then, I would be guided by my specialist team.
