6 month plus after treatment

Last October I found out I had DCIS in my left breast, I had 2 surgerys in November, I was told it was only 2mm big but after the second surgery they said that they had found 42.5mm of DCIS, which came as a big shock. I then had 3 weeks of radiotherapy in February.

From after the surgery the breast has been very uncomfortable, I have told them this every appointment I have been to. I was able to go back to the gym and do basic work outs again, press ups ect, but over the last 4 weeks it has become more and more painful to move the arm or use the muscle around the breast, and even laying and moving in bed, and giving a hug hurts. I went to my GP and he said there is no sign of infection, so has put me on high does anti inflammatory. Not doing much so far after a week, but will keep going.

Is this normal?

i know that the scar tissue is not as flexible, but this is really getting me down now

thanks

    Hi Tina,

I have had two bouts of primary cancer in the same breast. I had a lumpectomy for the first and a double mastectomy for the second. I did not have radiotherapy or chemo, but my bust was sore for quite some time after.

Have you been allocated a cancer nurse? If so, why not phone her for advice? She will probably be more used to post-surgical problems than your GP. Have you noticed any local warmth in your breast in the past 3-4 weeks? If so, there might be some infection there. I understand that having radiotherapy can alter the feel of your breast and skin. Perhaps others who have experienced this first-hand will be along soon to tell you about their experiences?

I do hope that you get to the bottom of this soon.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi thank you Jolamine The doctor doesn't think that there is an infection. I have got a macmalin nurse, but when ever I have told them that it's hurting or uncomfortable I just get well you have had treatment sort of comments. I was never offered a mastectomy, if you don't mind me asking how big was yours? I do woundered if they new mine was bigger then they first thought weather that would have been offered. I am sure it will get better in time Thank you Tina
