Beat Cancer what now?

Hi there I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphomia last year and just finished my last ever chemo on Friday 3rd July. I have a 2 year old son and a partner who works full-time. Throughout my horrible journey I kept my mind off what I had, just told myself 'its curable' but now its over and I have finished my treatment i'm finding myself lost and I can't believe what has happened or how to deal with it and I feel like I have been sleeping throughout the full 6 months. I have no idea how best now to forget about it all.

Hi Audrey - it is such good news that you have finished your treatment - I am really pleased for you!  I am useless at computer things but I hope I have put you a link above to Dr Peter Harvey's talk on 'When the treatment finishes - now what?'.. If the link doesnt work, then just google it - its just a few pages long, simple to read and really helpful in your situation.

Wishing you and your family a really happy future together - get on holiday and have some funwith your little lad!  Much love x

  • Did you have any symptoms? How were you diagnosed by biospy? Just interested i have a swollen lymph node in my auxillary.

  • Hi Audrey,

Congratulations - you made it through!

Treat yourself, have a holiday but most of all enjoy your life - which will never feel the same again as you now know that it can't be taken for granted.

    Best wishes
    Dave

  • Hi  Audrey,

I think a lot of people feel a little lost for a time after finnishing treatment, For whilile you have been having treatment plus visits for check ups  ect, you have probably been kept very busy. Now all of a sudden you only have to see someone every six months or so and life seems to slow down and return to some sort of normality and it takes time to adjust.

I am pleased to hear your good news; we love to hear good news on here. Wishing you all the best, Brian.

  • Hi Audrey

I had my last treatment (fingers crossed) in May and I have been getting on with my life.  I have been treating my treatment period as if my full-time life was on hold and now I have it back.  I have gone on holiday and have others planned.  Been doing all the stuff I used to do before.  I had my 3 month scan yesterday and go back next week for the results (hence the fingers crossed).

As to forgetting it dont try it has been part of your life and will form part of your decisions and how you look at life, it will start to fade as mine did but you will always be left with that knowledge as to how precious life is.  Start living

  • You won't forget this episode of your life or what you've learned. Take it with you and rejoice that you have come through it. You will move on in your own time. How about coming back here from time to time and through your knowledge give help to people newly diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphomia or for that matter any other cancer. I'm so pleased for you, best wishes

  • Hi audrey

I remember feeling that I should be dancing for joy when I was told I was in remission but I felt quite down.

Once I came to terms with what I had been through, I then felt very grateful and was able to move on. A holiday is definitely a good idea so you have something to focus on.

    Congratulations on your good news!

    Debbie
