My Journey Continues

Hi all my forum buddies.  Just wanted to post on a new thread as it is more relevant than where my journey began.  Hope to see you here. Jules

  • Hi Jules just joined and saw your post above I would love to read yours from the beginning I started a journal when I was diagnosed beginning September mine is called “ my unexpected journey” it would be good to know how others felt similar emotions feelings and shock that I felt and went through had my 2nd chemo today so I know there will be nights that I will lay awake so this site hopefully will be a great comfort I do hope your journey is going as well as it can with not too many bumpy roads xx
  • Hi and welcome to the forum which I hope you will find supportive.  My story is more that of my late husband as I joined when he was diagnosed and the support of the forum for nearly three years during his illness helped me considerably.  Since he passed away in January 2015  the virtual friends I made here continue to chat and show me kindness just by listening to me rabbit on!!

You are more than welcome to post on my thread but it may also be worth starting a thread of your own and perhaps mentioning the kind of cancer you have in the title.  This way others who may relate to your own personal journey can respond and I am sure there are many who will definitely understand the sleepless nights along with all the emotions you go through as you undergo treatment and wish you all the best with your treatment plan and hope you have family and friends who can also be there for a support network. Jules

  • Hope you are safe up there in the wilds of Scotland, Diane!  Take care and stay safe.

  • Lovely photos as usual, Jules, thanks.  Good job you took them when you did, bet the garden looks a bit different at the moment!

Stay safe on your journeys to an from work - I'm so thankful I don't have to travel to work at the crack of dawn any more, especially when the weather is like this.  I remember it well!

    Take care, Hazel xx

  • Hi Brian,

Hope you are safe and warm.  No more snow here overnight but everything frozen solid so have decided to have a 'stay at home day'.  Bathroom now has no running water so well and truly 'living in the dark ages' with a bucket ha ha.  However my next door neighbour called at 8.30 am to see how I was and also apologise as the terrific wind last night had torn down two more fence panels.  Her husband cannot repair at present as he is waiting for op on a double hernia.  Told her not to worry as not causing any problems at all and when she heard about the bathroom situation offered and 'open door' to their facilities any time over the coming days.  She is at home as her college has a snow day so she is working from home.  Very sweet of them.

Fingers crossed that Mrs B's scan throws some light on the reasons behind the ear problem and hopefully can be treated.  I bet you were very pleased and relieved to be back indoors.

So far so good with transport links round here.  Tubes have been running fine so did not have to revert to a bus.  Not working now till next Wedenesday so should all be gone by then.  Just waiting to hear if the plumber is still able to start work on my  bathroom as planned next week............would not  be surprised if it gets delayed.

My daughter in law due to have 20wk scan today but not sure if they can get there as no idea how much snow they had.  My daughter finally had snow yesterday and it came with avengence sono school for eldest grandson today though Zack's pre-school is open and he is delighted as all dressed up as a crocodile as part of World Book Day (yesterday) celebrations.  Our World Book Day plans at the shop had to be cancelled as the schoolchildren could not get in. Such a shame.  Think they are considering doing something smaller this weekend for visiting customers.  I will  no doubt find out next week.

Our delivery driver finally made it to store by late afternoon (accidents on the roads caused usual delayd).  He would have had a worst journey back no doubt.  Town Centre was pretty quiet yesterday but pavements were gritted and getting about ok.  Just a shame we had electrical problems in store so no heating, lift and escalator.  My colleague spent 25mins in the lift until engineer got there to 'free her'.  Left her a bit shaken and cold I can tell  you.

Well the bird need fresh water and feeders filled so will put on yet another layer and venture into the garden as more forecast for snow this afternoon.

Stay safe and sending warm hugs to all.  Jules

  • Hi Hazel,

Hope you safe and warm.  No problems getting to work as tubes were running yesterday.  Mind you it's been a long time since I wore so many layers!!  Have got up this morning to a 'freeze' and no running water in the bathroom; what fun!!  Lovely neighbour been in to check up on me and has offered use of their facilities as and when required bless her.

Here is my garden at present but apparently we may have more snow due this afternoon.  All my daffs are ruined/buried in their tubs in the front garden but they were lovely beforehand!!

One of my little feathered friends!

Take care of yourself. Jules x

  • Hi Jules, lovely photos as usual.  Glad you now have use of your bathroom again, not really the right weather for house alterations is it?!  (Added to which a cold shop to work in as well, poor you!)

As with you, the thaw is setting in here, so maybe back to normal next week.

    Stay safe, Hazel xx

  • Hi Hazel

Bathroom only 'frozen' for a day or so.  Renovations start this coming Wednesday (whilst I am at work) and plumber rang today with timetable of events. Should be pretty manageable.Have waited a year for my plumber to be free so happy to be getting it done and have weekends away next month to look forward to.  At least  the temperature is now a balmy 9 degs ha ha.

Thanks for your kind comments re photos; glad you enjoyed them.  Think I need to find some new subject matter when the weather improves!!

Stay safe and warm. Jules x

  • Hi Jules we were lucky with our bathroom our son is a gas fitter and told us to go to our caravan for three  weeks he did not say why properley but we new it had something to do with our bathroom .What a shock when we came home a new walk in shower, new loo ,and  wash stand with cuboards the lot  and would not take a penny of us. if you go on his site it has comments like, Karl does a great job but he is always very hard at it and you can not get him..That speaks for itself .,nice and dry in timperley today and not to cold had two good walks with RIA .regards to you lol

  • Hi George,

Unfortunately cannot move out during proposed works as still need to go to work  and though both my children offered refuge travelling would be an issue ha ha. Still, only me to consider and know the workforce (they did my kitchen a couple of years ago) and no doubt all willbe fine in a couple of weeks!

The snow we had has now been replaced by mild temperatures and the daffs are 'in recovery'.  Great that you and RIA are still enjoying your walks. Take care of yourself.Jules

  • Hello George, nice to hear from you and glad you managed to get through the rough weather.  (Hope your son didn't send you to your caravan during that!)

Hope you and yours are all well, and Ria of course.  Take care, Hazel xx

  • Hi Jules,

Went shopping first thing then took both of us to put flowers on our mothers graves. Unfortunately where my mother is buried, it is always very wet at this time of year. Took my grass clippers and trimmed round the headstones. I need  a warn dry day as my mothers headstone in covered in algie and badly needs cleaning. I have the solution to clean it with just need it to be a bit warmer.

I am very pleased with my fat free fryer. It works very well and I am now able to cook some very nice chips. Still cant get the hang of my new projector as yet but I wont give up.

Glad you were able to get to see your mother. How nice you read her those items. Although she may not show it Jules, I bet she appreciates your visit and secretly looks forward to them. Hope you renovations continue apace and bet you will be pleased when its all done and dusted. I had to laugh at you comments about a new hair style. We will have to call you Dusty Barnett ha ha.

Brianitus is still alive and well as I bought a pack of pistachios and another of cashews today. So I'm still as nutty as ever according to Mrs B. Dont suppose I will ever change either

Sending kind thoughts and hugs your way, Brian

  • Hi Brian

So pleased you were able to get out with MrsB  both for the shopping and to pay respects to your mothers especially with Mothers' Day coming up this weekend.  I bought my Mum an orchid plant and left the card for the staff to open for her on Sunday as I will be visiting my daughter along with my son and family.

Renovations going well and have the plasterer here today and tomorrow and no nasty surprises to worry about so far!  'Dusty Barnett' made me chuckle but as was the case before I married,I am managing fine washing my hair over the kitchen sink ha  ha.  Will soon be back to normal and I do have the gym facilities to use too which is only  a 15 min walk away (been there today).  To be honest feel more sorry for the neighbours with the noise levels.

Great to know that Brianitus is still going strong. Love cashews but you can keep the pistachios ...never been a fan which was always good news for hubby as he had a batch to himself!!  I don't buy cashews very often as no will power to stop at the tiny amount allowed ha ha.

Have just been asked to take some photos at the gym (kind of Meet the Team shots) so just waiting for a suitable date.  Will make a change from my usual photos!!

Hope you and MrsB have a lovely weekend and that MrsB has a good Mothers Day herself. Kind thoughts and hugs returned my friends. Jules

  • Hi Jules,

Just a quick post to say Mrs B has been in hospital all day. She collapsed after breakfast and I had to call the ambulance. They think she may has gastro enteritus but heavens knows where she picked it up from. They have been busy pumping fluids into her all day. She is still in A,& E at the moment. They are trying to find a bed on one of the wards for her. They may be sending her home in the morning but wont knoe until then.

Will find out more in the morning hopefully. Worried the daylights out of me this morning.

    Take care, Brian

  • Thinking of u both Brian. Hope she gets on a ward asap and quickly responds to treatment. Hugs sent. Jules

  • Hi Jules,

    Many thanks, Brian.

  • Hi Jules,

Just got news Mrs B may be in for 2 to 3 days.

    Brian

  • Hi Brian

Bless her, very unpleasant bug but she is in the right place to get  the necessary treatment. Sending big hugs to you both and will keep you both in my thoughts.  Jules

  • Hi Jules,

    Thanks you.

I did have a busy day yesterday. I had to cancer three of Mrs B's appointments. Also I had to make arrangements for someone to take the subs at our woodclub last night as I went to the hospital to see Mrs B. Had to take this years copy of the woodclubs fire list to one of our committee which we all have to sign. picked up Mrs B's prescription. Also did the washing. Make you laugh now; took me twenty minutes to find out how to switch the washing machine on Give me a block of wood any day. Come home at 8.00pm and did the ironing. I now realize a womans work is never done.

Mrs B is okay in herself Its just that this bug has upset her diabetes, blood pressure and all her other problems so she has seen one consultant allready and has to see another one today. But she is getting very well looked after.

Have to run now for Ive got to put my shopping hat on and venture down the supermarket. I have had a list of things to do so I know she is getting better ha ha.

    Take care, Brian

  • So sorry to hear about poor Mrs B, really hope she is on the mend now, bless her.  You did make me laugh about the washing machine!  Did you tell Mrs B?   Sending hugs to you both.

    Hazel xx

  • Hi Hazel,

    Thanks for that.

She is okay in herself. But she never makes a good patient Her blood sugar levels are high at the moment as she is still linked up to a drip so shes not able to do anything and like me she hates just sitting around. She cant wait to get home.

With regards to the washing machine I've had to go out and buy myself a selt of L plates and another set for the iron.ha ha. I am able to cook for myself Chips, chips and more chips ha ha

Take care and thanks Hazel, Brian.

  • Hi Jules and Hazel,

Just had a phone call from Mrs B to say she is coming home this afternoon. They are bringing her home so will have the kettle on ready. Perhaps I can even hang up my L plates. I could her the joy in her voice and know she will be so glad to get home.

Bett get the place tidied up or I shall be taking her place in the hospital ha ha.

    Take care folks, Brian.
