Hi all my forum buddies. Just wanted to post on a new thread as it is more relevant than where my journey began. Hope to see you here. Jules
Hi and welcome to the forum which I hope you will find supportive. My story is more that of my late husband as I joined when he was diagnosed and the support of the forum for nearly three years during his illness helped me considerably. Since he passed away in January 2015 the virtual friends I made here continue to chat and show me kindness just by listening to me rabbit on!!
You are more than welcome to post on my thread but it may also be worth starting a thread of your own and perhaps mentioning the kind of cancer you have in the title. This way others who may relate to your own personal journey can respond and I am sure there are many who will definitely understand the sleepless nights along with all the emotions you go through as you undergo treatment and wish you all the best with your treatment plan and hope you have family and friends who can also be there for a support network. Jules
Hi Brian,
Great news that Mrs B has been discharged after this latest appointment; one less hospital run to make and you must both be delighted by this. It has reminded me that I need to book in for an MOT ha ha; perhaps after my Spring hols which will also give me a little longer to lose the weight...............has been a bit of an up and down achievement since Christmas but ideally would like to see half a stone less of me. Trouble is I like food he he.
Thanks, I did manage to visit Mum on Tuesday. No real change but luckily she did not catch the bug herself, probably due to being confined to her own room. Fingers crossed all will be well now as it really hit the staff hard too.
Am just waiting to let the 'workforce' in and then as it is a lovely bright morning will go out to avoid some of the noise. Have apologised in advance to the neighbours but needs must and they appreciated the hands up! It also means they wont give the electricians the third degree as they come and go!
Hope you and Mrs B enjoying the new fat free fryer. I 'dry fry' in a non stick pan which seems to work ok too. Never been a great fried food fan but stir fries are occasionally on the menu as quick and easy.
Keep up with the writing; a nice hobby to have but you will need to finish them off before the better weather has the garage/workshop calling.
Wish you and Mrs B all the best for a good weekend ahead. Stay warm. Jules
Hi Jules,
Hope your electrical work has gone well and your new light has been fitted. Did you enjoy your walk. I bet it was cold so hope you were wrapped up well.
I spent the later part of the morning with my sister who lives about an hours drive away. She invited me to go with her to a Group Visiter event. Its an event where groups, like our woodclub can go and get leaflets about places that may be of interesting for them to visit as a group. I got a liitle book of trade pass's where me and Mrs B can get in for nothing so we can pre-view the place. My sister also brought two of her friends with her. We left her car at my place and I drove them all to where the event was taking place as I knew exactly where it was and also as I badly needed to charge my batteries up, (The car not me ha ha) Befor my siter and friends arrived I had got my car out of the garage and had got it warmed up for the wind was very cold.
Would you believe it, just when we were leaving the event the lady who asked me to give the talk acouple of weeks ago turned up and I was once again thanked for the talk. She has had a lot of good feedback about it apperently.
We all enjoyed the drive.
I hope you have a pleasant weekend. Sending hugs and kind thoughts, Brian.
Hi Brian, weirdly enough all the women in my family suffer with some sort of heart problems. My sister having the worse. She has a pacemaker, irregular heat beat and took a heart attack so she needs to watch her self.
Thanks for the advice and will take a mental note. I’m inclined not stop for a breath when I’m doing something. Now that you’ve mentioned the dizziness, I was having that just before and after the hospital stay.
Hugs and very dismal here Brian as well! Take care - Diane x
Hi Jules, was a bit of a shock at the time, but doctor said no need for any concern now that’s it can be treated with medication. Blood pressure is good and heart sounds fine. So I’m happy. Yes I think the spray is for emergency if I have a heart attack sensation, something along those lines.
your are right, so many colours compliant grey, I also think it’s very smart looking and fresh. It’s lovely Jules and the flooring if I pick one should compliment it even more.
Shame your mother is starting to take a turn now, but if they are keeping her pain free then that’s all anyone can do. I did get my hair done and it was nice to get my hair cut, hate when it gets too long. Granddaughters new flat is lovely and keeping it nice. I have no doubt she’ll be fine. Took her into town and bought her some things for the flat. Rest of my day I’ll be cooking some chicken and rice soup, tomorrow I might take some to my daughter, she’s got a chest cold and this might make her feel better.
Take care -Diane x
Hi Brian,
New light up and working so at least now I can see the keyhole in the dark haha. Preparation work for new lighting in bathroom now ready and waiting (though the current holes in ceiling make it a bit chillier!!). Hopefully works start in just over a week and will certainly been glad when it is all done and I will be dust
free again.
Sounds as though you all had a lovely drive out and having positive feedback regarding your presentation talk an added bonus too.
I have just returned from my Sunday gym and walk afterwards. Just a glorious day to be out and about. My garden is 'waking up' so took a couple of pictures before the weather is supposed to take a chilly turn!
Hope you having a peaceful and pleasant day. Jules
Hi Diane,
I have my fingers crossed that the slate grey I have chosen for my bathroom flooring will be complimented by the very pale grey 'grained' tiles for the walls. Once that is done I will think about a 'colour' for some new accessories. Electrics are done in preparation of new lighting but it is currently a bit chilly in there with holes in the ceiling ha ha.
Managed a good walk this morning after my gym circuit and was even okay to sit in the sun for a little while, watching the world go by (mainly wildlife or people walking their dogs).
How lovely to be involved with buying bits and bobs for your grand-daughter's new flat. I bet you both really enjoyed the shopping trip and then having a new haircut. Like you now that I have a very short haircut it begins to annoy me when a cut is due though do try and manage a cut every 8 weeks or so. Am away in April so am trying to tie in my next trim with this. Seems to act as a pick me up too!!
The chicken and rice soup sounds lovely (I make soup yesterday as love this for a lunch time instead of sandwiches (sweet potato/onion/carrot) and I hope your daughter enjoyed some if you got there. Wishing her a speedy recovery. So many bugs about at this time of year.
Stay cosy and take care. Jules
Hi Jules,
Pleased your new light is enabling you to let your light shine forth ha ha.
Had to take Mrs B for an MRI on her ears today. The hospital is about 30 minutes drive away but today took us about 80 minutes. She did wonder about cancelling but I promised to get her there safely. Our roads where we live were clear but when we got onto the country roads we have to use to get there, yhey were covered with overnight snow and it was not a drive I would want to do again for a long time for we had several steep hills to climb. We had to be there for 8.05 am so we were up early so we could make an early start. The outside temparature showing on my cars dashboard showed minus 8.5 c. We arrived with about 5minutes to spare and the scan went okay but Mrs B got very cold as the scanner was in an outside building without much heating so was glad to get back in the car to get warm again. The reason for the scan is she has been deaf in one ear for a long time and it affects her ballance. Handy for me for if I say things on her deaf side she cant hear me ha ha. Trouble is sometimes she does hear me and I have often been in trouble as a result ha ha.
Wonder how much snow we are due to get tonight? Looks pretty but I am not a lover of snow or cold weather. Hope you were able to get to work okay today without to much problems. Take care and hope you dont get any more snow.
Sending best wishes to you and your family, Brian
Evening Brian, hope Mrs B's scan result is okay and there is nothing drastic causing her deafness. Also hope you have both warmed up after your arduous journey this morning - don't think I would have fancied that!
Very snowy and cold here in east London, as most of the country.
Take care and keep safe.
Hazel xx
Hope you are safe up there in the wilds of Scotland, Diane! Take care and stay safe.
Hazel xx
Lovely photos as usual, Jules, thanks. Good job you took them when you did, bet the garden looks a bit different at the moment!
Stay safe on your journeys to an from work - I'm so thankful I don't have to travel to work at the crack of dawn any more, especially when the weather is like this. I remember it well!
Take care, Hazel xx

Hi Hazel,
Hope you safe and warm. No problems getting to work as tubes were running yesterday. Mind you it's been a long time since I wore so many layers!! Have got up this morning to a 'freeze' and no running water in the bathroom; what fun!! Lovely neighbour been in to check up on me and has offered use of their facilities as and when required bless her.
Here is my garden at present but apparently we may have more snow due this afternoon. All my daffs are ruined/buried in their tubs in the front garden but they were lovely beforehand!!
One of my little feathered friends!
Take care of yourself. Jules x
Hi Jules, lovely photos as usual. Glad you now have use of your bathroom again, not really the right weather for house alterations is it?! (Added to which a cold shop to work in as well, poor you!)
As with you, the thaw is setting in here, so maybe back to normal next week.
Stay safe, Hazel xx
Hi Hazel
Bathroom only 'frozen' for a day or so. Renovations start this coming Wednesday (whilst I am at work) and plumber rang today with timetable of events. Should be pretty manageable.Have waited a year for my plumber to be free so happy to be getting it done and have weekends away next month to look forward to. At least the temperature is now a balmy 9 degs ha ha.
Thanks for your kind comments re photos; glad you enjoyed them. Think I need to find some new subject matter when the weather improves!!
Stay safe and warm. Jules x
Hi Jules we were lucky with our bathroom our son is a gas fitter and told us to go to our caravan for three weeks he did not say why properley but we new it had something to do with our bathroom .What a shock when we came home a new walk in shower, new loo ,and wash stand with cuboards the lot and would not take a penny of us. if you go on his site it has comments like, Karl does a great job but he is always very hard at it and you can not get him..That speaks for itself .,nice and dry in timperley today and not to cold had two good walks with RIA .regards to you lol
Hi George,
Unfortunately cannot move out during proposed works as still need to go to work and though both my children offered refuge travelling would be an issue ha ha. Still, only me to consider and know the workforce (they did my kitchen a couple of years ago) and no doubt all willbe fine in a couple of weeks!
The snow we had has now been replaced by mild temperatures and the daffs are 'in recovery'. Great that you and RIA are still enjoying your walks. Take care of yourself.Jules
Hello George, nice to hear from you and glad you managed to get through the rough weather. (Hope your son didn't send you to your caravan during that!)
Hope you and yours are all well, and Ria of course. Take care, Hazel xx
Hi Jules,
Went shopping first thing then took both of us to put flowers on our mothers graves. Unfortunately where my mother is buried, it is always very wet at this time of year. Took my grass clippers and trimmed round the headstones. I need a warn dry day as my mothers headstone in covered in algie and badly needs cleaning. I have the solution to clean it with just need it to be a bit warmer.
I am very pleased with my fat free fryer. It works very well and I am now able to cook some very nice chips. Still cant get the hang of my new projector as yet but I wont give up.
Glad you were able to get to see your mother. How nice you read her those items. Although she may not show it Jules, I bet she appreciates your visit and secretly looks forward to them. Hope you renovations continue apace and bet you will be pleased when its all done and dusted. I had to laugh at you comments about a new hair style. We will have to call you Dusty Barnett ha ha.
Brianitus is still alive and well as I bought a pack of pistachios and another of cashews today. So I'm still as nutty as ever according to Mrs B. Dont suppose I will ever change either
Sending kind thoughts and hugs your way, Brian
Hi Brian
So pleased you were able to get out with MrsB both for the shopping and to pay respects to your mothers especially with Mothers' Day coming up this weekend. I bought my Mum an orchid plant and left the card for the staff to open for her on Sunday as I will be visiting my daughter along with my son and family.
Renovations going well and have the plasterer here today and tomorrow and no nasty surprises to worry about so far! 'Dusty Barnett' made me chuckle but as was the case before I married,I am managing fine washing my hair over the kitchen sink ha ha. Will soon be back to normal and I do have the gym facilities to use too which is only a 15 min walk away (been there today). To be honest feel more sorry for the neighbours with the noise levels.
Great to know that Brianitus is still going strong. Love cashews but you can keep the pistachios ...never been a fan which was always good news for hubby as he had a batch to himself!! I don't buy cashews very often as no will power to stop at the tiny amount allowed ha ha.
Have just been asked to take some photos at the gym (kind of Meet the Team shots) so just waiting for a suitable date. Will make a change from my usual photos!!
Hope you and MrsB have a lovely weekend and that MrsB has a good Mothers Day herself. Kind thoughts and hugs returned my friends. Jules
Hi Jules,
Just a quick post to say Mrs B has been in hospital all day. She collapsed after breakfast and I had to call the ambulance. They think she may has gastro enteritus but heavens knows where she picked it up from. They have been busy pumping fluids into her all day. She is still in A,& E at the moment. They are trying to find a bed on one of the wards for her. They may be sending her home in the morning but wont knoe until then.
Will find out more in the morning hopefully. Worried the daylights out of me this morning.
Take care, Brian
Thinking of u both Brian. Hope she gets on a ward asap and quickly responds to treatment. Hugs sent. Jules
