My Journey Continues

Hi all my forum buddies.  Just wanted to post on a new thread as it is more relevant than where my journey began.  Hope to see you here. Jules

  • Hi Jules,

Had a better day today. Got a set of red draught pieces done in Mahogany allthough they need a little more finishing yet. I am making them so when you have kings the pimple on the top sits in a hole on the bottom of the other one so they dont fall off. Will do a light colour set in Beech tomorow as I have got the time right down now.

    Take care, Brian.

  • Hi Brian

Knew you would get there as regards your draughts pieces and am sure they will do the board proud when all finished.

Renovations continue today with the plumber/builder finally taking out old boiler/gas cooker and beginning the installation of new water pipes etc.  This week is set aside for them to finish off everything that needs replacing/making good/skim plastering with next week seeing the flooring go down and then the kitchen fitters due to come in on 13th.  It is quite fascinating watching the changes take place and very little disruption (other than washing up in a bowl on the table and no cooking for a bit (not that enjoy cooking anyway ha ha)).

Made the most of the good weather yesterday. Was out from 9.30 till 4 and after the gym went for a walk, met up with daughter and grandchildren (who were giving my son in law the opportunity to watch the first meeting of the new Touring Car season in peace!) for lunch before heading to the Farmer's Market.  We enjoyed the stalls as usual and the boys played for half an hour at the huge lego table they put up down the centre of the barn. Eldest lad also had a go on the bouncy castle set up for the day and then we took them to the 'petting corner' where they enjoyed holding rabbits, mice, rat (baby pig was sleeping so did not disturb it), feeding the ducks and chickens and then moving into the lambs and goats pen before leaving to walk to the park and swings. Did some birthday gift shopping on the way back.

Unfortunately the lawn was too wet to mow and with the outlook showery will probably have to wait a while again but it is not bad at the moment.  Had hoped to do some tidying/weeding during my week off but weather may not help with this so will find myself something else to keep me occupied.  Have downloaded a few books onto my tablet and begun one which I am enjoying.

It is lovely that you are getting good feedback for all your hard work on the Wood Club's newsletter and it sounds as though you have some interesting articles in the making.  Not hard writing about a hobby you love to enjoy.  Take care and regards to you and Mrs B and hope your son's foot is improving day to day (though he is no doubt pretty frustrated!).  Jules x

  • Hi Jules ,

Just a quick post . I have completed my draughts set photo attached.

Just have to get the pimple in the middle a little more consistant.

    Best wishes Brian.

  • Well done Brian. You have been busy.  Jules x

  • Hi Jules,

I hope your coping okay with living in a building site. The good thing is it shouldnt be long before the works is complete and I bet you will be pleased to get things back to normal.

Today I went to see my son and family. He is so bored as he cant do anything much. At least he's had the grandchildren home for the past couple of weeks. While there I made up a story for my youngest grandson. Something I said sent him into a fit of hysterics. I have never seen him laugh so much for so long; his face was bright red. When we had both stopped laughing, I told him he made me laugh and added he did a lot of other people as well. He brought a big lump to my throat when he said, "Thats why I was born like this". What a lovely attitude to have for a ten year old given his problems..

I havent been out in the garage today so have done more work for future newsletters. I am now including a wood quiz question each month.

Take care, best wishes to you and your family, Brian

  • Hi Brian,

Believe it, or not, it is really only the kitchen/dining area that is affected at the moment and the workmen hoover and sweep up at the end of each working day.  No disruption to life other than one day without hot water and now the plumbing, electrics and gas work all ready for fitting of new units which is due to begin next Wednesday(after flooring goes down).  Plastering/painting has begun in that area and will continue until the weekend  - so far so good.  Decorator will be back once the kitchen is in and hopefully then be able to finish the rest of the downstairs lounge area.  Makes it easy being open plan in that he is able to do a section at a time (almost treating it like three rooms).  I have not found it at all stressful; in fact thoroughly enjoying watching the makeover and have the added bonus of people to chat with who are very thoughtful.

Glad you were able to visit your son and family and your young grandson could teach us adults a thing or two with his great outlook on life - can fully understand the emotion you felt at his words. Despite your son's frustration and boredom he must be loving having quality time with the family.  Hopefully his foot heals well and he will be back to full mobility in a few more weeks.

Am keeping my fingers crossed that there are not too many  showers today as am spending the day out with y daughter and grandsons (and craftily making use of her washing machine too).

Sending peaceful thoughts to you, Mrs B and all the family.  Take care Jules x

  • Hi Hazel

I see from your kind response on another thread that you were awake very early this morning and are no doubt struggling a little with the 'waiting game' for  your scan results.  Sending a big hug so you know I am keeping you in my thoughts and hope the wait will not be too long and will be 'worth the wait!'.

The pair of robins in my garden are very busy collecting moss and feeding more or less continually so suspect they are in full 'nesting' mode (though not in my garden).  The fox also put in a swift appearance again yesterday just after I had spent time weeding so still close by or just taking refuge in the garage!

Take care and am hoping for a reasonable day as have the floor fitters arriving around lunchtime. Still waiting for the roofer to come back but the weather is not helping as every shower delays things.  Jules x

  • Thanks so much Jules, you are so thoughtful.  I am awake that time most mornings, can't get back to sleep so have a read for an hour or so then fall asleep and wake up late.  I think that's why I am still so tired and lacklustre most mornings, can't seem to get back into a proper sleep routine at the moment.

I don't usually see my little robin in the spring or summer, though I do hear the singing so must be around somewhere close.

Nice weather here at the moment, so hope it's the same with you so you can get that blooming roof out of the way and put it out of your mind!  If it stays like this I might have a go at the old mowing later, at the moment I'm still trying to wake up as usual!

    Thanks again, Jules, hugs back!

    Hazel xx
