Hair Loss

Hi, I was diagnosed with breast  cancer in 2017 ER positive, HER 2 Negative

I started taking Anastrazole in March 2018. I am fine on the actual drug but the last few years my hair has got considerably thinner. It was never thick to start with. As I am over the 5 years I have to go back to my doctor, who says there is nothing he can do. I have an outpatients appointment with an oncologist in May 2027.

I look at products online but most are based on oestrogen which I cannot use as the Anastrazole is an oestrogen blocker.

Has anyone else been or is in my position and can give me some advice or hints. My hair is just touching my shoulders, I haven't any bald patches just incredibly thin.

Thank you

Sue

  • Hi Sue. I have ER + breast cancer as well.   I am on Exemastane which is like Anastrazole and my hair is incredibly thin as well.  I use the Watermans shampoo and conditioner and the serum every night.  I only wash my hair once a week.  I have also read about brushing your hair every night.  I bought a child's pure bristle brush and have started using this.  I have noticed a difference since brushing my hair.  My hair is just above my shoulders.  I used to love my hair before chemo and now it is horrible.  It does affect my confidence so I am hoping this regime will make a difference.

  • Thank you Lee for the tip, I did wonder if my brush is not helping my hair either. My hairdresser is also saying my hair is beginning to split at the ends all the time. Like you I try not to wash it but it's hard as I do gym classes 5 times a week hence the hair can look very sweaty so I  tie it up into a bun as to not to wash it but I don't think that helps either. It's really getting me down now.

I do appreciate you replying and though I wouldn't wish it on anyone, I am not alone.
