Post CT scan

Hello

I know it's bad but I'm worrying about my CT scan results. I was diagnosed with a high grade undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma last year in October and had it removed the same month then had 30 sessions of radiotherapy in February and March to the affected area to make fully sure it's gone. The radiotherapy was on my left shoulder and it really began to hurt and affect movement- to the point where my boss told me that I had to take time off of work to recover after I finished all the sessions - I work in a science laboratory so I used my hands a lot and had to move the affected arm too. I was reluctant to take time off as we were short staffed already

Since then I've been okay - I've been going back to the gym and have been trying to push myself in order to get closer to where I was a year ago. However I've noticed a pain more and more around the wound site and I'm wondering if it's from the gym or if it's something more. But it doesn't feel like the typical gym strain

My CT was almost a month ago and I haven't heard anything about it, so I'm guessing that's good. They would have said if it was something, but I also know I have an oncology appointment soon so part of me is worried that they are waiting for them.

I am feel quite new in this journey and this was my first CT scan since completing radiotherapy so I don't know what's normal or typical.

Thank you for your time and I hope all of you are doing okay

  • Hello Momolennon

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing some pain at the moment. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

Many members here will understand the anxiety that can surface when scans and appointments take place after active treatment finishes. Given all that you've been through it's natural that you are feeling a little worried.

It's good to know that you have an appointment already arranged. Hopefully that date isn't too far away and the Consultant will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them.

In the meantime if you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can ahead of your appointment.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Don’t hesitate to chase this up by phone, explain that the suspense is causing you stress. They may give your results over the phone but they may prefer to give you the results face to face ( which is best practice as you’ll have questions.

Frankly, there is unlikely to be any difference between the timing of delivery of results depending on whether the news is good or bad. I’ve had occasions where my oncologist has not read the report until I was in the room with her.

Good luck - people who haven’t endured these waits don’t/can’t understand the stress!
