After Diep Reconstruction

I haven’t posted much on here since my right breast masectomy in 2019. 2020 I had chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy. Recovering from that and then Covid hit. After a year being flat on one side I looked into having reconstruction.
I decided on Diep flap reconstruction rather than implants. Diep  uses your own tissue in my case from the tummy. I waited a year and a half for the surgery. I was fortunate that a very good hospital for this kind of surgery was an hour away.
The surgery was major, 8 1/2 hours. The first couple of weeks was tough recovering from the anaesthesia. I was cut from hip to hip bikini line and the flap from my tummy was used to recreate the new breast. The Diep breast is connected to the blood vessels and my surgery was a success. I also had my left breast reduced. I was very happy when I awoke to have two breasts. No more prothesis. For 7 weeks I wore compression bra and pants, then dressings removed and now 8 weeks over I’m massaging my scars with bio oil. I am hoping to start swimming  next week. It’s been a long road but I feel I have been put back together and it has been good for my self confidence. In a few months I will have a 3d nipple tattoo. This is my story if anyone is interested!
