Different brands of Letrozole

I was just looking for feedback on how people are coping with their Letrozole tablet side effects please. I started with Sun pharmaceutical brand that hospital supplied and feel ok no side effects. On asking docs for repeat prescription and asking chemist for same brand they can't get hold of it so supplied Accord brand. Does anyone have any feedback to when if any side effects kick in. I have just got used to taking tablets and wanted to stay on same ones really. Thanks

  • Hi I’ve had two med reviews now and one due in January. Usually just agree to re prescribe. Again every case is different so speak to your professionals on my next subject. When I spoke with the bre t nurse about two years ago she was very informative and told me there was a good chance by the time I have done five of my ten, years, which will be 2024, on this  medication that I may only need t do two more years. Apparently research suggests that some people can reduce to seven years with the same protection. My surgeon confirmed this at that appointment, also in the follow up letter he se saying we could discuss it at next years appointment for options of tamoxifen or letrozole for the last two years. Again this will be on a case by case basis. Off to bed for a bit of insomnia .

All the best for Christmas and the same healthy happy 2024 for you too

  • Hi Dutch,

I'm glad to hear that your surgeon actually listened to what you were saying and took note of what you said, at your last appointment. I would always advise anyone to call their breast care nurse if they have any problem or query. They really are very helpful.

I wonder if we are not fully informed of the side-effects for fear that auto-suggestion might then play a part in our developing some of these? Many people seem to sail through hormone treatment with no ill effects. There doesn't seem to be any hard or fast rule as to what brands cause people problems - it is very much an individual matter. I hope that the physio can help your hands - unfortunately, mine are now so stiff and sore that they are past redemption.

I am so glad to hear that things are a bit better for you since you stopped taking Anastrozole.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jasssoscared,

It's good to hear from you.

I honestly don't think that many of us get through cancer treatment, without developing additional problems along the way, but the fact that we are still here is certainly a bonus. It sounds as if you may have dry eyes, which would make them feel gritty. I had this to start with and was given drops to simulate tears by my optician. I also had blurred vision with floaters and then the pressure in my eyes started to rise to a worrying level. I was also given drops to help reduce the pressures and I have to take these for the rest of my days, but they have brought the pressures down quite a bit.

I still have to attend the hospital to get the pressures checked every couple of months, but this all came about as the result of a visit to my optician. Try to make it your New Year's resolution to get your eyes checked, before any damage is done. I really found it terrifying, when I lost the sight in one eye and was fast losing it in the other.

I hope that you have a very Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year too.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi , I was so pleased to read your post! Magnesium certainly helps me with the bone pain so severe it wakes me up . My nails were in an awful state too so I take Bamboo extract for that which helps ! All these supplements are  costing me a fortune but so worth it x

  • Was wondering if I was imagining lessening of joint pain but am keeping fingers crossed (trigger finger permitting …).
i think I was well advised by the team who undertook my treatment, but there’s no substitute for experiencing joint pain. It was explained to me as a “slight” stiffness on getting up in the morning, but it’s worse than that and can be all day.
Anyway, KBO as they say. We are still here and have much to be thankful for.
