Housing

Hi my mother in law has 3 types of cancer and is terminal. The problem we have is she owns  her own house ( no mortgage) but can no longer use the stairs. She has gone into respite for a week but hates it. She would like to rent a bungalow short term rather than go into hospice , is there any services out there available that rent this type of property short term ? I am clueless

  • Hi maundy if your mum is normally mobile would it be less messing about to price up a stair lift, then no moving problems. Up to you and your mum of course. Good luck.............. Billy

  • I agree with Billy. Making adjustments to your mum in law's home will be far less traumatic for her than moving her to a new home. Have you spoken to Adult Services regarding anything they can provide to help with mil's care & quality of life (commode etc). Perhaps moving her bed downstairs will be helpful.

    Good luck,

    Angie

  • Thank you for your reply, yes we had all this in place and ready to go and then she decided that she could t deal with the mess and didn't want anything to ruin her house. This is all so very sad as such a proud lady

    Many thanks

    Mandy

  • Thank you for your reply, we were due to have a commode delivered and bed downstairs last week, but it never turned out right. A walking frame is being delivered tomorrow but no sign of bed or commode. But, now she is refusing a bed as will mess her house up and she want to remember it as it was. She said she would be happy to rent a bungalow and thought maybe there may have been a way to do this rather than go through a 8 week process through letting agency as not 100% if we have that time frame left. We just want to do the right thing. We have contacted all the right people and Monday tomorrow so should get some calls

    Many thanks
