Anyone any advice about taking HRT after cancer

Hi

I have always said anything that increases the risk of cancer, I would always stay well clear of.

I have had bowel cancer in the past so not a 'hormonal' form of cancer.

Maybe I already answered my own question in my first sentence but wondered if there's a 'safe' HRT to take or if they are all as bad with the risks.

Should I just stick the menopause symptoms out or see my GP about maybe trying one.

Thanks

  • Hello Ineedabreak,

I think the best thing to do in your particular situation is to go and talk to your GP. Do explain that you have had bowel cancer and that you would like to avoid anything that potentially increases the risk of cancer. Your GP will be in the best position to tell you whether HRT is a viable option for you or if there are alternatives that you could consider. I hope you are not suffering too much from these menopause symptoms at the moment.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply, I seemed to hit the menopause around the time of my cancer so it's hard to tell which is connected to which.
