Financial Assistance

Hi All,

New to the forum and wanted to gage your opinion on a sensitive matter.....

I have a long term (22 years) 47 year old employee who has battled cancer for a number of years and has recently been told that it has returned more aggresively and  he has been diagnosed as terminal.

My gut reaction is to tell him to clear his desk and go and make some memories with his family and it is my intention to continue to pay his salary for the foreseeable future.

Q. I know it is legally wrong but (with his agreement) would it be morally wrong to make him redundant (on grounds of capability) close to the end so as to pass some tax free cash to his estate for his family. I can see the only losers in that deal as HMRC.

I'm in a quandry.

Many thanks
