Help with ESA claim

i am trying to help my sister in law who is struggling with stage 4 lung cancer, she now has a DS1500 and gets PIP but I can’t get the ESA sorted because of a shortfall in her NI contributions. The qualifying period is 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 but she only started being self employed in Aug 2016.we can pay the shortfall but if we pay it we don’t know if she will qualify, as only 17 months. Can anyone help with where to go for help asshe really needs this money? Thank you

Hi Fedor. Welcome to the forum.
I'm not an expert on benefits, I'm afraid. However, I think the Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB) may be able to help you. You should find their contact details on their website.
Meanwhile, here is their information page for ESA (click here). Apologies if it tells you nothing that you don't already know.
There may also be a local disability charity that can offer advice and guidance. To find one, I suggest you type a Google search along these lines: disability charity in xxxxxx
Repace xxxxxx by your town name, or the nearest large city name, or county.

There are two types of ESA - if she doesn't qualify for the contribution based version, she may qualify for the income-related version.
