HELP BLUE BADGE

My Grandad who is 76 has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, he struggles with long distance and I was wondering if he is entitled to a blue badge for his car and parking. Any advice or info would be greatly apprciated thank you in advance.

  • Hi davek

I think we're in agreement here.  The system is scandalous, but it's what we have and for now we have to cope with it.

  • Hello Kay89,

I live in Hertfordshire and applied for a blue badge on Tuesday the 7/03/2019.

My application was approved Thursday the 9/03/2019 and paid for.

My badge is now being posted to me.

The form for Hertfordshire on line was very easy to completely. I took the Terminally ill option and included the consultants latest letter to my gp re tumour size and position and the pain I am in when gaining access to my car in standard parking bays.

At this stage of chemo for T30 n2 tumour in rectum, and T20 n0 in three places in my bowel I am on a “curative “ route dependant on chemo, chemo/radiotherapy, further chemo and possible operation if all goes to plan. It will be palliative care otherwise.

Even after my operation I have been advised that chemo will be required for 6 months or more... So my route is about 12 to 18 months in total from being diagnosed.

I will have a stoma for life so aim to reapply for mine in the future on the same basis, due the planned high position of my stoma and contact with car door etc.

    best of luck

  • I would very strongly advise to ask at the hospital where it is that you can see a Macmillan benefit advisor in your area

They will be able to fill in the application for him as his representative ,and they get the form fastracked because of the condition, they will also advise you about him claiming Attendance Allowance and sort this form out too

They did all this for us and it took such a weight off our shoulders

    Hope this helps

  • Info above relating to the Blue Badge scheme is incorrect.

Having cancer treatment does not mean you will be eligible for an automatic  Blue Badge. You are able to apply but must have a walking difficulty as indicated on the application form. Anyone holding a DS1500 form will get an automatic badge without payment and this is valid for 3 years. The only reason a badge would be issued for less than 3 years is if the holder is in receipt of PIP award which has an end date on it.

  • No one is asked for payment up front. Payment is requested once the bagde has been agreed
