Travel Insurance

My husband finished treatment for Oesophageal Cancer in December 2016. In April it was found that he had a new tumour in his lung. This was operated on in May, when it was cut out. We've had a crap 18 months. And are looking to go away in about November. Has any one had travel insurance that hasn't cost the earth ? Any suggestions please. Thank you

  • I went on a week's cruise in Croatia in June.  I have a stage 4 cancer and had insurance with Eurotunnel.  As long as you are stable at the moment, your oncologist has not diagnosed you as terminal (fortunately mine never uses the word),  and your GP would say  that you are fit to travel they do not want to know any more details.  My insurance was £25!!  I found their web pages difficult to follow so phoned and got a very helpful person.

Good luck and here's .hoping you have a well deserved holiday.

  • Hi Susan,

This is my pet hate. There seems to be two choices: pay a fortune to cover everything including the cancer or; pay a reduced amount which covers everything but excludes anything (and I mean anything) vaguely Cancer-related. I've had quotes from several low-cost companies recommended by folk on here but, without exception, they either wouldn't provide cover because I have Stage 4 OC, or they excluded the OC and all my other pre-existing conditions - which frankly are the most likely things which might cause my holidays to be cancelled or cut short.

I guess it depends on how risk-averse you are, or how stable the cancer is.

In the past, I've found it cheaper to take out an annual travel policy but this year, despite my condition not changing for a year, it was cheaper to take out a single trip policy.

Shop around is the best advice, I guess. All-Clear was the best fit for me last month, but I've used other companies in the past.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on ;-)
