Hi my name is Susan. My husband Glyn was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer 13th April 2016. It was at stage 4. He started Chemo on the 23rd May. With 6 cycles consisting of an 8 hour day session, with 3 weeks of chemo through a portable pump. He had to have chemo cancelled for a total of 3 weeks because of low Neutrophils. But after an appointment on the 1st August we were told the results of the scan he'd had showed good news. That the tumour was shrinking. A further scan and another oncology appointment on Friday 7th October. We were told it had shrunk more. He has a week left of his pump. Then in about a month he is to start Radiotherapy. For 5 weeks. He also had a further 5 weeks of ECF chemo. After three months he had a scan which showed the tumour was hardly there, just scar tissue from the Radiotherapy.
In March 2017 my husband had a full body PET/CT scan, which showed that the oesophageal cancer was not showing, just scar tissue from radiotherapy. However a nodule in his lung was now showing as cancerous. Cut a long story short, he saw a surgeon from Guys Hospital who operated on him and did a right lung wedge resection. Taking a15 mm primary tumour away. Not a metastases of the oesophageal. He's 2 month post op and assured that the cancer from the lung has all gone. .
