Critical illness insurance claim

I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer-ductal carcinoma in situ and told this would not be eligible for an insurance claim. Following my lumpectomy my diagnosis was changed to invasive cancer stage 2 and I am now waiting for Sentinal node surgery next week. Does this make me eligible for a claim? I am going to speak to the company -Zurich- but wondered if anyone had made a successful claim in circumstances such as mine. Thanks all.

  • Hi Kalisunshine,
I am so sorry to see why you have joined the forum, but welcome.
I have had personal experience with this company and can warn you in my experience they may you offer a third of your cover for a quick settlement, which in my opinion is taking advantage of the customer or those who due to circumstances are unable to think straight.
Basically as long as they hold onto your funds the more interest on monies they get.
They do pay out (check your wording of policy and be prepared for toing and froing of paperwork)
    Take care
    Kathy x

  • Thanks Kathy, wise words! I will bed in for the long haul. I have paid into the policy for so many years, in fact nearly cancelled recently as it costs me so much each month-thank goodness now I didn't. I will not settle quickly if I am entitled to it, it will give me something else to focus on rather than just Cancer! Thank you for replying to me I appreciate it.

  • Good news- my insurance company agreed my claim on Friday. Although the process has been lengthy it has been simple. Only required me to give permission for surgeons reports to be sent to my insurance company. The delay has been in the company requesting and then reading report. I have kept on at them on a regular basis. Report was read Friday morning and claim agreed that day, money in bank by Friday evening. The critical element in the success of my critical illness claim was the word invasive in my diagnosis, I am stage 2, node negative. Hope this gives someone else considering a claim some encouragement. Since starting this claim I have discovered that there are now some companies (Zurich is now one of them) that WILL pay out a proportional amount for DCIS cancer on their new policies.
