Should have got advice sooner.

Well that`s my second session over and boy has it made such a difference in how I have been feeling, physically as well as mentally,I feel totally wiped out but am still able to get out of bed and sit in the garden with the dog (weather permitting) most days, don`t really feel up to doing much else yet,but only time will tell.Unfortunately the hair has n`t survived this session so off it came at the weakened, anyone asks it`s a new fashion statement!!!! although it does look pretty cool and I get to wear cool hats, that my daughter-in-law has supplied. As I did n`t think things would change this quickly I have decided to seek the help of a counsellor, I feel that the support I get from friends and family is not going to be enough soon so I need to do this for myself and they whole heartedly agree.xx

  • Benjii, not sure if you have Macmillan in your area, but they do a Hope course (usually just a fewpeople), which you may find helpful.  Or you could ask if there is a support group close to you.  They are of enormous help, just speaking to others with cancer who will understand how you feel.  The counsellor is also a very good idea.

Good luck to you, I do hope that you get some help.

  • Hi Benjii,

What chemo regime are you on? I was on EOX and had a similar experience. The first two cycles were OK but then I felt like I'd been pole-axed - other people have reported similar experiences. The good news is that the side effects will probably disappear within weeks of your last cycle.

I found that chatting to people on here who had recently been through a similar experience really helped and talking to survivors gave me hope and inspiration to keep fighting. I do hope you find the same help and support as I did.

    Best wishes
    Dave

  • Benjii, l hope very much that you do not mind my asking what l am about to ask but you seem to be {very unfortunately} in a position to answer a question that l desperately need some advice on. My husband has been diagnosed very recently and is now on his 6th day of chemo but he is very short tempered with me. In fact his whole personality has changed. Of course l understand his fears and the fact his whole world has been turned upside down but l very much want to help him. So do you think he would be better seening someone who is not so close to the family like a councellor etc. I would very much appreciate your thoughts.
