Travel insurance last minute

Anyone else experience this. My mum was told she has breast cancer yesterday. Caught on a mammogram we had no idea she’s fine generally been told it’s stage 0 in situ and not to worry her surgery is July 4th. Problem is we are due to fly to lanzarote 16-30 of June have had the trip booked for over a year. We could have cancelled on our current insurance and got the money back for some of our group but we have been told she is fine to go as she’s on the waiting list during this time anyway however our current insurance cancelled as soon as I informed them of the cancer diagnosis. I found another who would cover her fine however because her treatment doesn’t start until we get back it has gone from around £100 to £1175. This is insane we fly in 12 days

For specialist health insurance. My cheapest quote was £900 for 10 days Europe. Yours may be much less.

  • When I was first diagnosed with cancer the holidays we had booked prior to knowing about the cancer were still covered on the insurance, anything booked after diagnosis was not covered and I had to find other insurance. One holiday that had to be cancelled was honoured when I could travel because the insurance was taken out before we we knew about cancer diagnosis. The insurance was through the bank.  With Staysure insurance I was quoted similar to you so I didn’t take out medical cover. Unfortunately I am having to cancel this holiday because my cancer has come back. For another holiday that has to be cancelled I took out insurance with Albert & Eddie and it included all my medical conditions including cancer and was very reasonable. Maybe look into them.
