NO BUCKET LIST BUT NEED TO TRAVEL

Our treasured daughter has stage 4 breast cancer and has a declared wish to travel as much as possible while she still can. Air travel will not be an option under any circumstances. Rail travel looks like the best bet all round but does anyone have ideas ?

Best regards,

Brian

  • Hi Brian,

A very warm welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear why you're here. You do not say whereabouts your daughter is based. Can she manage a long journey. France is always a possibility, via the tunnel, or Jersey via the ferry. She could travel further afield from France, through Europe. Almost anywhere in the UK is connected to the rail network, or what about coach holidays in the UK or Europe? Always ask for assistance, if your daughter needs it, as this makes travelling much easier. Have you managed to secure travel insurance for her? We found All Clear helpful with this.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you both. I do hope that your daughter manages to get her wish.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Good morning Brian I am so sorry to hear about your daughter.  I have metastatic breast cancer with bone mets in pelvis, spine, ribs and skull.  I find long car journeys and sitting for long periods of time so painful.  I have been thinking of rail travel as I would be able to get up and move around.  May I ask why flying is not an option.  My husband and I were thinking of trying to fly to Portugal or Spain or somewhere close to see how I get on.  I would be able to stand on plane and journey not too far.  I want to try it and see.  I hope your daughter get to travel as much as she wants to.  Lee x

  • Hi Lee,

    Many thanks for your response.
It sounds rather like you have much the same diagnosis as our daughter.. She has the additional problem of a tendency to have a DVT, (had 3 and was told her flying days were behind her).
Rail travel seems to be favourite at the moment and Aberdeen going south has an excellent service so we have work to do.

    Best regards,

    Brian
