Benefits

Just a general question

Looking for a link to see any benefit can be claimed due to prostate cancer.

For example, a relative has a prostrate can and he is in sort of remission.

He works 15hrs a week as a breakfast which involves some heavy lifting but keeps breaking down stomach issues every 6 or so weeks and has to take time off he gets his sick notes from his GP.

At some point he may have to resign/the employer may look to sack him.

Is there a link I can go to check what he could be entited to ?

Thanks for help

Kevin

  • Remember he is classed as disabled now so has more rights about working and could be put on easier job if possible. Macmillan should help with things needed for him.or put him in touch with someone who will.

Pip and attendance allowance should be his but might need help with paperwork.

  • I've come on here for similar questions so I'll try to keep this all on one thread.

I was diagnosed in February. Spoke to a Cancer Charity in Sheffield who helped me fill out the forms. DO NOT DO THEM YOURSELF!!! That's not me saying it, it's them. Speak to citizens advice or your local cancer care provider who will forward you on.

Im eligible for, and in receipt of UC and PIP. I have been OK up until today. I'm beginning to really struggle. Are there any other benefits available at all? Carers allowance is a no-no due to my wife working full time. It's worth noting I'm 36 and she's 33 with 2 young kids.

And what's attendance allowance? I can't say I'm in receipt of that, or ever had it mentioned.

  • Hi Matt,

Attendance Allowance is payable to persons of State Pension age who need help with their care. PIP, which you are already in receipt of, is for persons under State Pension age.

  • I see. Thanks Angie.

    Matt.

  • Have you been told for sure that your wife isn't eligible for carer 's allowance? If she cares for you outside her working hours and it totals at least 35 hours a week she should still be eligible. She will have to pay tax on the benefit though.

  • She earns above the threshold. We get stung on UC as it is. She can't even work overtime as the more she earns, the less I get on my UC payment and I've got bills to pay. She works from home so is with me 24/7. I am physically OK around the house but should anything occur, she's there.
