I really hope I'm wrong

So in June 2018 I had skin cancer removed by surgery and cleared by December 2018. March 2019 I had symptoms and went to doctor turns out I had stage 3 esophageal cancer. Treated with chemo radio and surgery October 2019 cleared in December 2019. 2020 covid came and now I'm finally getting back to normal ish. Today I am worried because I found a rough bumpy dry patch of skin on my face. Imagine a scab that won't go away. When I had skin cancer I was told for 2 years plus that it was eczema until a *** up by a locum meant I got referred. This patch is very similar and is scaring the crop out of me. I really hope my imagination is just running overtime but I really don't think I can face cancer for a third go. Gotta call GP again in morning. Fingers crossed

  • I will be GP is closed and don't do bookable appointments I have to call at 8am to get one hopefully. The lady I spoke to today said if I tell the person about my history they should be able to put as a priority. I just hope she is right xx

  • Hi shaky .

Sorry your having problems again , but nice talking to you.  It might be better to go to Dr rather than phone up our surgery doesn't switch phones on till they have been open an hour because patients queue at door before time for appointments to make sure of getting one.hope you can get seen quickly but hope its some simple to fix.like eczema.

I'm still plodding on, oncologist keeps changing meds, brenda has improved in leeps and bounds sits in sun most days plenty of sun cream on and she's happy, was worried about her after second covid jab, she had two Tia's and a fit in two days,. she's fully incontinent now, but we manage ok plenty of pads and pants.language ,can be crude.

Be thinking of you hope things go smoothly.

    Billy xxxx

  • Glad to hear Brenda is doing well Billy. I'm hoping it's something simple too. Will let you know. Thankyou for saying hi. I hope your meds are working well and you are feeling good. Sensing love xx

  • Hi,

Hopefully you have managed to get through to your surgery this morning. If not, still keep trying. They will probably ask you to take photos and email them through if they aren't seeing patients in person. Even if they see you, still take photos as it helps to keep a photographic diary in case of any subtle changes throughout the next few days & weeks.

I'm assuming the patch of skin is new? If so, you have found it straight away & getting it checked out. Push for a referral back to dermatology because of your history. You don't say what type of skin cancer you had previously. If it was melanoma, your chance of getting another primary only rises a little so there is a chance, if skin cancer, that it's a basal cell which occur a lot on the face due to sun exposure. These are easily treated, either by topical treatment or excision.

I'm crossing fingers for you that it's not another cancer diagnosis. I know how soul destroying it can be to keep going through all this - hopefully it's not as bad as you fear. Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Thankyou for your response. I managed to get through to speak to them they are going to get GP to call at some point today to speak to me she also said they may want pictures or they may want you to come in. I had Basal cell carcinoma the first time but it was fobbed off for 2+ years as eczema. A locum doctor prescribed scabies lotion. I didn't use it as I had broken areas. It was only that a Dr saw this *** up that I even got referred to dermatology. It is a new patch been there 2 or 3 weeks. Rough lumpy and not sore at all really. I left it to see if I was overreacting as I thought maybe it's just a scab, maybe the dogs caught it etc. It hasn't gone at all so am determined to get it checked.

  • It's good that they are calling you back. What awful treatment you got from the locum - I've never heard of such an inappropriate treatment for a skin condition that obviously wasn't scabies. There are so many types of skin conditions this one could be including solar keratosis www.nhs.uk/.../

  • Thankyou will have a look xx

  • Hi shakingmad, I just wanted an update. Did you find out what the scab on your face was about?

  • Hi I went to GP they just said to keep an eye on it. Any major changes to go back xx
