☹︎ chemo looming

After waiting for an hr in the hospital waiting room we were told that I need another operation to remove lymph nodes ( I'm in 3 wks recovery from a double mastectomy, sentinel nodes were taken)

I then need a CT scan, chemo and radio. I was told to write off the next 6 months.

I'm so scared, losing my hair feels like my identity.

How have others got through this?

  • Hi sorry to read you find yourself on the journey none of us want to be.

I was told in March I had breast cancer. Surgery was April 21st and chemo started June 11th. I had my head shaved to close crop when it started coming out, then a week later I lost what was left. It was a shock and I did shed tears. I had bought a cheap wig and assortment of hats. I wore hats to start but now apart from sun hat I go bald everywhere its just too hot.

I do have low days as not worked since May and don't see many people but know I have to go through this.

You will find an inner strength to get through. Happy to help if you have any questions.

  • Thank you Louise.

Any chemo tips? What should I take with me...

  • Drink plenty before and during.

Wear something comfy, I had something on phone to watch but didn't as nurse was with me majority of time first session and all of second. I got offered a sandwich, biscuits and tea and got given jug water. But you can take own food, snacks in.

Get some imodium and also heartburn stuff in ready. You will be given anti sickness meds and possibly 7 days of injections and steroids.
