[[]]Ive avoided hospital as long as possible but due to inceasing swalowing problems due to esophageal cancer and crippling back pain due to bone cancer I ended up coming in on Monday. (My specialist nurse gave me the benefit of the doubt when I spoke to her on Friday about difficulties but said if things were the same or worse on Mon she would be arranging me coming in). So here I am.
Plan while Im in
1 Radiotherapy on back and pelvis to ease the pain.
2 Pain clinic to see me to get my painkillers "tweaked".
3 Stent to be fitted in esophagus to make swallowing less of an ordeal.
4 Dietician to see me to sort meal replacements and eventually build me up on to basic food starting withpuree. (Hopefully as outpatient so Im not stuck here).
5 a *** load of drips to rehydrate me.
I know I needed to come in and probably Should have come in weeks ago but I just want to go home. Im on an oncology ward and I cant fault the staff other than typical inefficient Nhs communication between departments being very frustrating. BUT im on a 4 bed bay and one of my roomies is doing my head in.
he Is on an alcohol detox, clearly unwell and needs to be in hosp because unsupervised withdrawal is dangerous if not fatal. But I just question him being on THIS particular ward. Surely a general medical ward would be more appropriate. I feel for him and he clearly isnt well BUT he isnt ill with cancer and him shouting the nurses throughout the night wanting more detox meds is really grating on me. Hardly compatable with rest and recouperation.
