  • Hi amy2017.

Progression time is going to depend on many factors, including cancer type (which you don't mention).

Ten years ago when I was having treatment for prostate cancer, there was a lot of interest in the effects of cranberry juice on prostate cancer.  Whilst it seems that cranberry juice can lower PSA, it doesn't seem to have any effect on prostate cancer, and there is a danger that by artificially lowering PSA, it could actually delay detection of some early stage cancers.

Regarding the other foods you mention, I don't think there is any real scientific evidence that they're  useful in improving cancer outcomes.  Cancer Research UK has pages on Green Tea and Turmeric

Garlic may or may not have some effect on certain cancer types, but a lot more research is required to find out if the effect is real or (like cranberry juice and prostate cancer) imaginary.  This paper outlines what is known so far: Phytochemicals of garlic.  Most of the work is early stage and uses either animals (mouse, rat), or human cancer cell lines in glass dishes ("in vitro").  In at least one case, oral ingestion was ineffective and the garlic extract had to be injected - not something any doctor would recommend for a human patient. Unfortunately, many promising treatments that seem to work on animals or human cell lines fail when applied to human cancers.

None of the foods are likely to do any harm, but I suggest you discuss with your medical team before increasing your intake of any of them.
