Primary peritoneal Cancer & Bowel Cancer - Large Stomach

Hi All, I have PPC & Bowel Cancer and am undergoing chemo for both.

I have a PICC Line fitted which was neccesary due to my veins being to small to get a stent in when having blood taken or chemo.

I also have the type of chemo that means I have to have a pump attached to my Picc line and which stays fixed to me for 2 days whilst at home. This is then removed by a district nurse at home 2 days after the pump has emptied.

My type of cancer has given me a large stomach which makes me look about 6 months pregnant and which I find very unsightly and hard to live with.

My question is really is their anyone out there with similar symptons or going through the same treatment as me?

Due to Covid it is impossible to meet up with other cancer patients that I can chat to or have the same symptoms as me and I am feeling very lonely and longing for a chat with sometone who understands how I am feeling.

Thank you in anticipation.

  • Hello GrandmaMary and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

A big welcome to Cancer Chat. I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis of primary peritoneal cancer. There is information on our website on this rare cancer on this page which I hope you will find useful and if you have any questions at any point about your treatment for example you can call the Cancer Research UK nurses for free on 0808 800 4040, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

It must be really frustrating with covid not to be able to meet up with other cancer patients who have the same symptoms and diagnosis as you. I hope that this forum will be a good platform for you to meet others who find themselves in a similar boat at the moment and who will therefore know exactly how you are feeling at the moment, especially during these isolating covid times. If you type in the keywords 'primary peritoneal cancer' in our search function which is located on the blue banner at the top, you will be able to find past relevant threads on this subject. Don't hesitate to respond to any thread you feel you would like to engage with. I've had a quick look for you and found for example that [@Snippy]‍ also had a similar diagnosis and posted a reply on this thread to share her story with others so I hope that you will get talking soon and sharing experiences.

I hope that your chemotherapy treatment is going well.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
