Has anybody having chemotherapy had a coronavirus vaccine yet ?
Has anybody having chemotherapy had a coronavirus vaccine yet ?
Hi there, it all seems a bit of a mess doesn't it? My husband is 75 in March and is now on immunotherapy every three weeks so vulnerable but no vaccination date yet. My friend Ann has her first chemotherapy next week for her cancer, she's 74 and their surgery are offering her one before she goes for her first session. So basically I have no idea what is going on! Best wishes, Carol
If your worried about the vaccine making any difference with the chemo, check with oncologist but from what I understand its a dead virus so you should be okay,.I know its not the same but I had flu jab while still having chemo and checked then .
Take care and good luck with your treatment.
Billy
Hi I have asked the onco and she doesn't recommend the vaccine because she has no idea if it will interact with active treatment. And I had a covid no symptoms at all.i won't risk the cancer treatment.
Thank you for your reply
I hope your husband receives his vaccine ASAP
I'm glad your friend is receiving hers before she begins treatment
stay safe and well X
Thanks for your reply Billy
I was just wondering if they were giving it to anyone on chemotherapy
and if some people had it, how were they doing ..?
my oncologist said the same as you, that it's a dead virus and should be okay ...but they haven't given it to any patients yet, just staff.
Glad to hear you were fine with the flu jab, makes me less anxious
stay safe and well X
My sister had the vaccine today however she's not on cancer treatment but she is on immunosuppressants. They advised there was no live vaccine and if anything it just means that she might not receive the level of immunity that someone would without being on medication.
Hi JayD,
I had my first cycle yesterday of Docetaxel with GCSF for Locally Advanced Prostate Cancer.
On asking the Nurse if I would be allowed the Covid Vaccine she replied Yes.
She gave me a two page A4 size leaflet.
This explained as they are not live vaccines, and such can be used "if you have had chemotherapy" !
Or have a weakened immune system.
The Nurse said it was new and her colleague asked.what system.it was on for.them as she didn't know about it !
Take care Hope that this helps

I look forward to receiving mine
lots of people are saying exactly what you're saying
that it's safe because it's not a live vaccine X

Hi Jane
The Nurse said it would be done through my GP and not via the hospital.
Glad you like the quote.
Treatment is being kind on my first cycle.and my first 24 hours.
Made a list and stuck to it until mid afternoon.
Even took my two Springer Spaniels out on a short walk.
Stay safe to you and yours
