My wife had a sore scalp for no known reason for many years - although now it's settled down.  She benefitted from a mild steroid scalp lotion (Locoid), combined with a coal-tar shampoo (Polytar).  This is definitely something that you should discuss with your GP.

I had a left mastectomy 3 weeks ago after my chemo. My chemo started in march and finished about 6 weeks ago. 

When I was having chemo, I was having the same. My hair start falling 2 weeks after my first chemo, I cut it short, but my scalp still hurted. I shaved it cos hair was falling everywhere amd my scalp was hurting and had migraine for 3 weeks, I also started to get rashes and white spots despite I was washing my scalp often. I put a herbal mask on my scalp (neem leaf) and after 2 days the rashes, white spots all gone. For the headaches/migraines and the funny head feeling, which didn't go with medicines; I used spikey Yoga mat and it has helped me with my sleep as well. 

The neem can also be put on hair as well. 

If you decide to use it, I would advise to tried it inside your elbow or behind  your ears just in case there is allergy.

I forgot to mention that the shampoo amd conditioner I used was Faith in nature shampoo (vegan, cruelty free and paraben free as well)  my hair has started to grow for about 4 weeka now and I am still using it.
