Aftercare after double lumpectomy and reduction

Hi, my name is Jane, recently diagnosed with double breast cancer, now awaiting surgery for lumpectomy and reduction in both breasts, 1/4 off each breast. I'm terrified if I'm honest, but staying positive, what I would like to know is, is there any special pillows I can buy that will help me when in bed, I normally sleep on my side, but I cannot do this after surgery, any advice please xx

  • Hi Janepeter1

I also had bilateral breast cancer with lumpectomies and reconstruction. I too was scared when facing surgery but couldn't believe how simple it all was. I was never in any pain and home the next day. I didn't buy special pillows as I could sleep on my side, stomach, in fact, any position.

The key for me was to get a comfortable bra that would hold everything together but soft enough that it didn't disturb my sleep.  I bought Asda 'comfort' bras and also reinforced vests that have an extra layer for breast support (Primark).

Try not to worry about the operation, honestly it's not as bad as you think x
