vegan is it safe while being treated with cancer

I have been a vegan since Jamuary the 1st this year. I liked meat but thought the health benefits outweighed eating meat and dairy products.

My question is this I am about to start chemo and wondered if anyone has had this issue and what did they do about their diet?

many thanks for reading and any comments. MJB

  • Hi Myned.

Welcome to the forum the club nobody wants to join.

Main thing is that your fit and your getting all the proper vitamins and things that your body needs, to stand up to your treatment, did you have a word with your oncologist about it they should be able to recommend best thing for you.

Hope treatment goes well and keep positive.

    Best wishes for the future.

  • Hi Billy thank you for your response. I have to meet my oncologist in about a week so will ask them then.

  • Hello There,

l know you can replace vitamins from out of a bottle, but unsure that you can do the same for the essential amino acids that you get from eating unprocessed meat.Like in everything its really sensible to maintain a healthy balance.Chemo could certainly interfere with your body's ability to uptake essential nutrients,so it really does make sense to do you can possible to give that extra help.l hope your chemo is a user ftriendly version, and you manage its challenges without too much grief,

  • Hello Mynedd,

Sorry that you have the unwelcome guest.

I was diagnosed with a Colon cancer last November 2019 which has metastasised to the liver and cannot operate and only maintained.

I became a Vegan after my diagnoses, having read, listened to many healthy eating seminars. I knew I had to stay healthy and not to loose weight. I lost a little bit of weight during my first six sessions of chemo but then I have kept the same weight.  I've started to eat organic, no gluten as much as possible, and during Covid, when my chemo was stopped for 4 months, I started self healing cancer meditation from YouTube.  I stayed a vegan for 6 months and then I started eating organic fish once or twice a week. I also take supplements to build my immune system. This has worked for me and my last CT scan showed 50% reduction of the lesions. I spoke to my Oncologist and he told me to eat what ever I liked and worked for me.
Be positive and believe that you can heal.
