Adrenal cancer recurrance

Hi all,

Was diagnosed with adrenal cortical cancer 2017. Had op to remove gland early 2018, all went well. Recurrance in lymphnodes diagnosed late 2018, another op 2019 to remove these. In Mid 2019 had a scan and again cancer returned in lower abdominal wall, EDP Chemo suggested. Started Chemo in Dec 2019, carried thru till Feb 2020. Was constantly sick, i was crying all the time as my 5 yr old son had to witness all this! Had scan in March 2020 and tumour had shrunk, had to stop chemo due to Covid-19. Restarted Chemo June 2020, had 2 sessions, after each treatment i ended up in my local hospital. Now oncologist says to start a new treatment for Adrenal cancer, but is actualy an old treatmemt for Pancreatic cancer, GEMCAP. I can only have this for 6 months, then they have no idea what to do if it has not worked. I am 44 and have a husband and a 5yr old boy,  both are very suppportive, and we talk a lot about my cancer, treatment and feelings. But, I AM SCARED OF DYING, i don't want to yet, trying to stay positive but it is hard. I am worried about how the mortgage and other payments will be met IF i have to stop working etc....

  • Hi

Very different situation with me, but finishing similar.

I was diagnosed Feb 2016, prostate Cancer gone to lymph nodes, spine, ribs pelvis and a lung, was classed as uncurable now palliative care so I'm just living with my uninvited guest, was working but had to retire to look after my disabled wife she needs 24, /7 care she has Alzheimers and parkinsons plus other problems I'm her official carer.

I had to promise I'd look after her before she'd marry me (she's nearly 14years older than me) been married nearly fifty years now.

I know care homes don't look after people 24/7 so I'm fighting and keeping positive nomatter what, I'm on injection every three months and daily tablets.

Just keep positive and keep fighting.

  • P. S.

I've also got a problem called addisons, it means that my adrenal glands don't work so i need medication to give my body what the glands should be doing been on these meds over 15 years.

  • Hi. Sorry about delay in responding, had a lot to deal with.

Had my Gemcap Chemo, 3 cycles, CT Scan done and showed (Nov 2020) cancer had negative response to treatment

Oncologist reffering me now to the ETS (Early Trial Science) team, hopefully be a guinnea pig for new drugs that they "may" have. If not, doctor quite bluntly said i had, at most, 2 months! absolutely gutted and devastated. However, we are keeping positive that there will be a new drug to try, and that, if anything will give me more than just 2 months. i feel that if i give up, my body will too, and i wont allow it if i can help it. I am otherwise healthy, we go for walks and play in the garden on trampoline with our 5 year old, we eat healthily by having proper homecooked family dinners and we do have the occasional take away. We are staying positive and hopeful
