Terminal/incurable

Hi im Jan. I was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian 6 months ago. told my cancer is incurable. for the first time today i have had it put into my head that it really means terminal? when i first saw my oncologist she told me she has patients living for 10 years.. i dont know why i thought my cancer would be all gone and then maybe come back? i dont know what to do with this now.

  • Hi jan

Incurable is same as palliative care nowadays. I was diagnosed Feb 2016 stage 4 non operable just living with my uninvited guest all it means is it can be treated to slow or stop it but not cure completely. (get rid of)

If you want to talk I'm normally on forum daily.. Billy

  • Hi Billy thank you so much for replying.
I feel stupid really. I almost wish the oncologists use the word terminal.
im new on this site and hope to learn more about my cancer.

  • Hi Jan

If you put what was diagnosed and where. Thares a good chance others will reply with similar cancer and give you information to help you better.

  • Hi Billy

i was diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer. It's responding well to chemo. I had a very bad reaction to my first cycle and as a result have severe lung damage. (40%) lung capacity. I don't know most of the time if my exhaustion is chemo or lung related!
you have been fighting your battle for 4 years. That's amazing.

  • Hi jan

Just thought I'd tell you about me and move you back to beginning of list.

I've prostate Cancer gone to lymph nodes, spine, ribs, pelvis and a lung. I'm also a carer for my darling Brenda been married over 4 7 years. She has Alzheimers and parkinsons and keeps having TIA's (mini strokes).

Are you still having some treatment or have they got to find something else. Hope things improve for you.

  • Hi Billy

you sound like your a super hero I know my husband is. I tend to think the worst and he is a positive person. He gets upset when I say negative thoughts.
do you continue to have treatment? I will find out next week what our next plan is. What do you mean by putting me at the beginning list?

  • Hi jan

If nobody replies to you you go go further back and less chance of someone noticing you if it's replyed to yo you go to the beginning so more chance of being seen thus being replyed to.

Your husband is right keep positive thoughts and actions is what you kneed to do.

Some people just give in and struggle even if treatment is working.

I'm on permanent hormone therapy and cemotherapy when neaded. I've baffled my specialist though. My normal first sessions of chemo 2016 worked well even though i spent 8 days in hospital going in and out of a coma. Specialist reckoned I'd need more chemo beginning of 2017 still haven't had any yet and cancer still receding. I know it'll change but I'll just carry on till it does. Glad there sorting some treatment for you, good luck with whatever you get.

    Remember keeping positive.

P.s if husband objects to me sending you a kiss he'll have to find me first. X

  • Lol!
he kisses everyone! Not at the moment of course. He's being very paranoid due to me being shielded.
Is your wife at home with you?  Do you have family close? I miss my daughter so much. I've got boys too and I miss them but it's not the same. Don't know if you would get that?  So grateful for the sunshine.

  • Jan

Yes my wife's at home she's got a hospital bed and we've got ceiling hoists, to move her to commode or wheelchair. I sleep at the end of the bed on a camp bed (only thing we have room for). Nearly everything that was in that room was moved into a nother room.

I understand about your daughter. We didn't have any girls. But got granddaughter and bren always like to see her she's also got two daughters so brens missing them also.

All our family have family of there own so not much time for us

We have 6 great grandchildren. So it's mainly just me and bren oh and Bella our chihuahua she's rather spoilt.
