Pain after lung surgery

Hi,

I had a 3rd of my left lung removed last year, luckily I got the all clear , however a year down the line I am still experiencing , pain in my left side of my chest .
sometimes feels that it is in my breast x

this is very worrying , doctors say it's not my heart, but the pains / ache comes and goes x

it hurts when I lie on my left side and sometimes when I breathe.

i am still Under my consultant who as stated if I still have pain now may always have it.

just looking for reassurance if anyone else as experienced this x

apoarsntly is down to scar tissue and thickening if the bronchai walllining x

tour thoughts or as anyone else experienced this

thanks

  • Hi, it's only 4 months since I had the lower half of my left lung removed but I too get pain on the side of my left breast, it's not sore to touch but feels like a stabbing/burning pain in it and I sometimes struggle to get comfy at night if lying on my side.

My consultant told me this was normal after major surgery as your body is adjusting and that it can take up to a year to recover, although I appreciate you are saying it's been over a year for you now and there is a chance it could be permanent. I also still struggle to wear a bra but was hoping that this may become easier over time.

I did used to have pain in my left breast before the lung cancer was detected and worried I had breast cancer but I went to my GP on 3 separate occasions about it over a few years and had mammograms and ultrasound and nothing was detected.  I did have an irregular heartbeat that was picked up last year  and I also wondered if that was connected - it was when I had a heart CT scan that they picked up the lesion on my lung (heart was fine and I'm now back in normal sinus rhythm).

Not sure this is giving you the reassurance you were after ... but I too would be interested to know if other are/have experienced breast pain after a Lobectomy.

    Best wishes

    Ruth

  • Hi Ruth,

thank you, hope you are recovering well.
my pain comes and goes, so I can have a couple of days when it's not there at all, then days when it's there all the time.

    it's more when I have exercised x

    thank you for resoonding
