Side effects from steroids?

Feeling rough today. Chemo was Monday and I went out yesterday, maybe did too much too soon and bad nights sleep. Doctor gave me extra steroids for nausea, wondered if that upsets sleep patterns. Sofa day today.
rubbish. 2 down, 4 to go, give me strength!

  • Hi silver steroids can help loads of things to improve, but they can give the body a boost so sleep can be a problem. Hope you get sorted soon.

P.s I've been having steroids daily for the past fourteen years it does get easier in time. Without steroids I'd have died fourteen years ago.

    Good luck with treatment

  • Hi, yes steroids definitely disrup sleep. I had chemo yesterday, I had to take steroids (decamethasone tablets) the day prior to chemo, day of chemo and the day after and although I’m tired I cannot sleep.. my mind is awake and racing. It’s so annoying. I told my oncologist and she prescribed 3 days worth of sleeping tables for use at night which has helped and I managed about 5 hours last night. Give it a few more days when the steroids wear off and I won’t be able to stay awake!

    stay strong x

  • Hello Silver,

Hoping you get up tomorrow feeling a bit better. It must feel as if you are climbing a wall at the moment but you will get to the other side.

This site is often helpful to me, hoping you find it so too. So many people in the same (or similar) boat. It’s reassuring that there ARE people who know exactly what you are going through.

Hold on tight. Sending you love and healing through the ether.

  • Yes, steroids help with the nausea and appetite but seems to affect sleep patterns. Wishing hubby well, I know what he's going through and he's not alone.

  • Yes, I had steroids before and after chemo, but doctor gave me extra this time. Might take sleeping tablet tonight but don't you find they make you woozy the next day?
