Brown-ish boob!

hey all,

here goes.... had breast cancer August 2017, had chemo and radiotherapy, I then had a lumpectomy and was given the all clear.

April 2018, found another lump, everyone told me it was scar tissue from lumpectomy, I KNEW it wasn’t so pushed for mammogram... turned out to be a different cancer to the first one..... had chemo again and a double mastectomy October 2019.... so the problem now, is, the side that had the cancer has turned like a brownish colour not really REALLY dark, but you can tell it’s a different colour to the healthy side and I have a really tender spot (not near any scars)

has anyone else experienced this after mastectomy or should I be concerned? ;)

  • I haven't any experience, but I would be calling GP or Breast Cancer Care Nurse for advice.

  • Hi,

I know this reply is a bit late, I've only just seen your post.  I had a mastectomy in October 2019 and lymph node clearance in November. I didn't have rads or chemo, but I have had a problem with fluid in the mastectomy site. I had to keep my drains in for ages after both surgeries as I was still making fluid.  After they were removed I had a seroma that was drained once, nearly half a litre of fluid was removed, but not all of it and the nurse didn't want to put the needle in more than two places. I have since developed lymphoedema in the same place, a recent attempt to remove fluid under ultrasound guidance did nothing but make me bleed.  All this time my skin has stretched and I look like I've got a pert little A cup next to my dangly DD!  All the time I've been seen by nurses and doctors and they have taken absolutely no notice of the fact that my pert little A cup has a deep tan!  It has gone brown from the scar, upwards to above the half way line, and the skin below the scar is going brown in thread like pattern towards dangly DD.  I mentioned it to my BCN and she just said she wasn't worried about the colour.  I have a slightly sore patch on the white skin above my tan line and I get tightness from my underarm right across this non-boob but as the discolouration doesn't seem to worry any of the professionals who have seen it, I have decided not to worry about it.  I'm glad to know that I'm not alone, though.
