female facial bristles after starting Anastrozole

Hi, Im embarassed to ask this, but since starting on anastrazole about three weeks ago, I started to get whiskery hairs popping up on and under my chin, Ive had a few over the years and just plucked them, but this seems different, is this imagination, or something to take up with the consultant when I next see him?  Have also been told by oncology via breast nurse that theyd prefer me to stop using the vagifem that was such a help with bladder weakness and discomfort.have had a few hot flushes, but nothing intolerable, but the whiskers thing is really bugging me, and my fingernails wihich grew incredibly long when I was first ill and full of complan when I couldnt eat well, are starting to split and break off short. advice or suggestions welcome, thanks.

  • Hello poland19,

I think it might be worth bringing this up with the consultant when you next see him especially if you think that these hairs only started appearing after starting Anastrozole - your consultant will have the expertise to tell you whether this is a possible side effect of the medication. We have information here on Anastrozole side effects but it doesn't list all the side effects so the best thing to do is to talk to your consultant when you next see him about this and also about your fingernails issue. It could also be a good time to bring up the fact that the breast nurse told you to stop the Vagifem despite it having been such a great help with bladder weakness and discomfort. Perhaps your consultant will have some good suggestions for you to help you deal with this.

Our nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm so don't hesitate to give them a call if you want to talk things through with them.

I hope you won't mind but I have also replaced the word 'medication' in the title of your thread with 'Anastrozole' - this will help others spot your thread and hopefully you will hear from some of our members who have also been on anastrozole and who may have experienced similar side effects. I thought I would also mention [@MaryT19]‍ 's thread here where you will find other ladies' experiences of anastrozole and feel free to respond there too if you wish.

I hope these issues get sorted soon I can imagine it is a bit irritating for you!

    Best wishes,
