Chemotherapy

Hello,

I have just had a meet with the oncologist. I am about to start FEC & Zoledronic acid chemo, 6 sessions.

I also have to have a bone scan before the chemo, although I have had CT scan and MRI. Worried that there are a couple of lymph nodes that are enlarged in my chest.

Anyone else on these drugs and what side effects can I expect. Any tips? about to start in a couple of weeks.

  • Hi,

still waiting for my first chemo. Had bone scan last week and my team will meet on Wed to decide treatment. I've seen the oncologist and will be having FEC, I hope it will be decided this week so I can get on with it. Why are you having bone marrow injections? Is that usual for chemo?
I am stage 2 grade 2 HER pos invasive ductal cancer and it was in my underarm lymph nodes. Had masectomy and  lymph node removal. Scar not looking too good all bumpy, not very attractive. Have you lost hair yet? I've made appt for wig fitting

You are doing well 3 down 3 to go, Halfway there,  hurrah!

    Best wishes

    Silver

  • Hi Silver, yes you will need to have those injections.its to boost your white cells.scar will heal dont worry. Are you having herceptin as your her2 positive? I start that monday for year.every 3 weeks.i started losing her day 14th of first scan.i was crying a lot so got mother inlaw to shave it.got wig, though I just keep head scarfs for when I'm put and about.dont like wearing wig much x

  • Nobody has mentioned the bone marrow injections to me. Where do they inject it?

Poor you, Im dreading losing my hair almost as much as my breast. Its no picnic this cancer malarkey!

But just think how relieved we will be when all those cancer cells are gone.

    xx

  • Hi,

how are you? It's 9 weeks now and I'm still waiting for 1st Chemo, the Oncologist decided I needed a bone scan so more delay while waiting for results. I'm having FEC like yours. Hope your chesty cough better , I had a bad cough couple of weeks ago but not to do with chemo, a virus going around. Dreading side effects, have had hair cut in a short Bob. Told to wear dark nail varnish to protect nails? Bought a Braun ear thermometer as mine quite old

and blasted thing not beeping so has to go back. Thought it was a good idea to keep on top of temperature.

Getting fed up with cancer taking over whole life!

    Sending healing vibes ......

  • Hi silver

I'm all good thanks, in hospital but feeling better.

Had my first FEC last thursday (23rd jan) and it was fine. Managed the cold cap but nothing has been as bad as i expected.. no side effects particularly except for a little tiredness and chemo brain (fuzzy brain)  which was quite amusing . The steroids you take for 2 days afterwards were fine and I still slept like a log. And you inject yourself into your stomach for 5 days with something that stimulates your bone marrow to making white blood cells. All went brilliantly until I had a temperature and had to come into the hospital and blood results confirmed my liver was not very happy with the chemo. What that means to my treatment I dont know yet!!!  Probably a new plan. Hopefully find out tomorrow.

I too had my hair cut to a short Bob. Wake up every morning expecting to see my hair on the pillow   but no signs of losing it yet!   I was distraught about hairloss but now my treatment has started it doesnt seem that important anymore and I cant wait to not have to shave my legs or pluck my chin  yes those thermometers are fab, I bought one too.

Do it one day at a time you've got this

    Big hugs

    Stef

well done, at least you're getting through it. Have you tried meditation app for sleeping, or breathe in for the count of 7 and out for 7, helps to relax body.
