Memories

I first would like to say how much this forum has helped me with some really good information,  even though I would prefer not to be joining,

Anyway I've started my palliative care program for my cancer on jan  & was told on dec that I had about 8 month to a year , now what I would like to know is do you think it would be ok for me to book 2weeks holiday in the tenerife or do you think  my doctor would be against it ?

It's to try & make some happy memories with my 11yr old twin girls & my wife

                 Thanks

  • Hi wimbat I'd just check with your specialist to make sure you haven't any treatment around time of holiday so your fit enough, also check about insurance they vary plenty. Good luck.... Billy

  • Hello

I would say if you are well enough to travel and it won't interfere with your treatment then go for it but double check you can get insurance before booking anything.

I had my 5th cycle of palliative chemotherapy last week and I am currently skiing in italy. We booked the holiday last summer before I was diagnosed with cancer and my oncologist told me I would have to cancel, but, if I only have 12 months left then I am going to make the most of every moment while I am well enough.

  • Hello Wimbat 28

i got travel insurance with Free Spirit after a recommended company refused me . Your Oncologist would probably have to say he is happy for you to go,  I had been having treatment for 4 years for secondary cancer at the time,  it wasn't too expensive, it was to The Fjords on a cruise. Would have liked to go to America but think the premium would  have been too much! Good luck ,enjoy !

    Hi Wimbat,

I agree with the other replies you've got. CHeck with your surgeon, that he doesn't have any treatment scheduled for you whilst you're away. Also make sure that you have got travel insurance before you go away.

If you find it difficult to get cover there are some specialist companies that will cover you. Come back to us if you need them.

I do so hope that you can get away and that you all have a lovely time. Making memories is so important. Have you thought of writing letters for your daughters to open on milestones in their lives? Some people do this for weddings, births, christenings, etc.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine
