Mouth cancer

My partners been diagnosed today with cancer, it has eroded his left gum and is slightly on the roof of his mouth they have taken a biopsy to determine the stage and scans to see if it’s spread, but have felt his neck for lymph nodes and checked the rest of his mouth and it seems clear I asked if its treatable and the doctor said I think so and that they are making a plan, I’m just really unsettled by that response? Should I be?

  • Hello Jessica
I was just about to reply to another one of your posts and saw that you had posted this one to say that your husband now has a confirmed diagnosis of oral cancer. I'm so sorry to hear this. Undoubtedly this week has been a rollercoaster for you both however it's sounding positive that things have moved so quickly for you and at this stage the Consultant feels there are options. try and keep hold of these positives while you're waiting for results and more information. It's easy to get lost in the negativity of it all otherwise.

We do have quite a few members here on the forum who have had different types of oral cancer and I wanted to sign post you to a few different threads. I'm sure that if you post on one of those that you'll get support and advice from others who have been in your situation.
Initially I'd suggest having a look at and maybe commenting on these threads here and here

I also wanted to give you the link to a blog by one of our members Vatch (aka Gary) who is now happily living his life post oral cancer. I know that when Gary was active on the forum his blog was a great help and some of the members are still in touch with him. You can read about his journey with oral cancer here. In fact another couple of our members [@RadioactiveRaz]‍ and [@Anchor1707]‍ also have writeen blogs about their journey with oral cancers which I'm sure you'll find interesting. You'll find links to those in the two threads I've linked above.

Finally, and only because I don't want to overwhelm you with links and things, we do have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research UK that you are very welcome to call and speak to. I'm sure that they will be able to help with information and advice. You can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

Do keep in touch Jessica. Let us know how you're both getting on and what happens at the hospital. I know that the community here will do their best to support you through this.

    Best wishes,
