burning pain & blisters - 4 weeks post mastectomy plus recon

Hi, wonder if anyone has any suggestions about managing the weepy blistering which has nibbled away my nipple post op? It now looks like a scabby knee and Im terrified of it falling off, am trying to let the air get to it, otherwise using the soft edge absorbent plasters breast nurse gives me to shield it from clothes but at 4 weeks post op am getting very cheesed off with it, also the burning  sensations in skin, esp under arm, over breast and round into shoulder blade area. Am hanging on to see nurse again tomorrow but O seem to have a lot of broken skin areas and when I keep plasters over them they go soggy.

Also, anyone got any idea about how long it takes to feel up to returning to work? No way I could carry the rucksack laptop and note taking stuff I need for my work, and I go there by bus. Is it being ridiculous to just want to get back to feeling normal?  I havent even had my oncotype DX results yet. apologies but Im not a patient patient.

next year had better be a whole lot better than this one! Chin up everybody x

  • I'm sorry no-one was able to get back to you before you saw your breast cancer nurse, but I hope they were able to offer you some tips and ideas on how to manage the weeping.

Hopefully my reply to you will allow our members to see your post again, and I'm sure those who have been through a similar experience will be along soon to share their thoughts and advice.

Our cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday (except today) between 9a.m - 5p.m if you ever want to speak to them about this or any other worries/concerns that pop up during your recovery.

I hope this helps and wish you all the best for the New Year Poland.

    Kind regards,

  • thanks, have seen them, its still a mess, but Im going to gp surgery to get regular blood tests and bp check so have asked for them to do a dressings change for me on Friday, and to check the wound under breast again - if the HCA who sees me has any concerns she will get one of the triage clinicians in to check it. saves me a trip to our busy breast clinic and allows my husband to return to work after five weeks off, no way I could manage the four bus trips it would take to get up there and back on my own, so a shortish walk from surgery after a lift there will be far better for me. Have also clarified with the nurse who does triage that I neednt worry about the fit note faff, she has made a note to sort it next week as with wounds still weepy its clear Im not fit to be lugging a rucksack around and travelling on buses where no room to sit down.
