Recovering from Lumpectomy

So I had my surgery on Friday, back to work today for the first time. I am relieved this first step has finally happened, and the cancer has been removed, my lump was 3x2x2.2cm and the surgeon has done a really good job of retaining the shape of my breast but finding it still very painful.  I have a large hematoma and on antibiotics to prevent infection, I am back on the 10th for results of the surgery.  Discovered I am positive for hormones as well as HER2 positive which freaked me out a bit, but trying to keep positive.  My surgeon said there are lots of treatments for my type of cancer and they will use all of them.

  • Hiya, wow you went back to work quickly, i am impressed!

I had my surgery (lumpectomy) yesterday too. I didn't get antibiotics, i wonder why not?  I had to go back to have my wounds redressed today as they were pretty soaked - nurse said there had been a haematoma that leaked.  Dressings look dry today so hopefully it won't happen again.

I go back for my results on the 11th so we are at similar stages! I didn't see the surgeon after surgery but i was told before that my tumour was 3cm so we have that in common too :-)

Did you have any node clearance? I just had the sentinal node biopsy.

Feels a bit strange having a nice perky boob and then my other big droopy one!

Hope your recovery goes well :-) I'll follow this post to see how you get on on the 10th. C

  • Hi

They took out one of my nodes should hear on the 10th if it is clear. To be honest I ended up going home at 2:30pm sore and tired but it felt nice to see my colleagues plenty of lopsided hugs. Yes having a different sized boob feels odd, the first time I took the surgical bra off it nearly brought a tear to my eye. You can only prepare yourself so much. Let me know how you get on, its nice to chat to someone in a similar situation
