Starting radiotherapy next week - any advice?

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a 6-week course of radiotherapy next week - 5-10 minutes a day for a brain tumour. Also doing some half-strength chemotherapy at the same time.

I wondered if anyone had any advice to make if go well. I heard that the second half can get harder, but not sure how? Will I still be able to get out and about, e.g walk into town? Any tips for eating and sleeping?

Any experiences or advice welcome :)

  • Hello, I have had radiotherapy for two weeks now, one more week to go, for breast cancer. It's important to drink a lot of water and to mosturise the area with a mosturiser that does not contain sodium lauryl sulphate - I am sure they have told you that. Be generous when you apply it. My friend who is a homeopath told me to take a cupful of Aloe Vera juice before I eat anything in the morning. That's what I have done.

The treatment lasts a few minutes and it is painless but I have felt tired and if you do, just take naps. Apparently it is normal to feel that way. Yes, you will be able to go out and do what you have to do, just rest if you are tired, and very good luck :)

  • The very best to you.  I only had chemo, 5 years ago, beyond exhausted, so I stayed lazy.  I had breast cancer.  Cancer free today, sending healthy thoughts to you.  I love Aloe....

  • Thanks for the advice both. Aloe vera tablets sound good.

My partner also mentioned calcium with vitamin D and gingeng so will research those too.

    Many thanks, visgraat
